We are about to paint the house. The kitchen is open to the living room /sunroom and has an eat-in area. The walls will be painted a shade of white.
With white walls and open space do you still like painting the soffit grey? I def do like the painted soffit when the walls are also painted the color.

Between the cabinets and countertops is a shell/pearl backsplash

I feel like adding any color up there will only bring more attention to it. I truly don't see any dating with leaving it as is. Only other option I could think of is having your cabinet company use the same materials as your cabinet fronts to create a custom trim to fit exactly to the ceiling. Hope that makes sense!

Would the soffit drywall being flush to the cabinet help at all or would that not really make a difference?

There is a little change in depth of the soffit over the fridge. If that was gone and it was all the same depth, would you be ok with it? That little jog bugs me, but the rest doesn’t. In the photo of the cabinet to the right of the stove I actually like it, it looks like a design feature.

I think what they did is get cabinet boxes aligned to exactly the depth of the soffit, but then put on full overlay doors that sit proud of it. It looks purposeful and I like it, except for that jog. That makes it a miss to me. I would probably just built out that one spot. I wonder though, if it is a required appliance clearance?

If you can’t get crown in the same high gloss white, I would try to paint it a white that matches the appliances.

The soffit is in line with the unopened cabinets and refrigerator- so I think that may be the reason for the indentation.

But thank you! I think bumping out that area would help and it’s not a huge fix. It may look odd when it fridge is open, but I still really like that idea.

Maybe cleaning up the drywall- making sure the corners are very straight , smoothing the texture, and bumping out the drywall by the fridge could help

Install stainless steel strip on perimeter of soffit or paint.

If you go to a custom cabinet shop, they can order the shiny white Luxe to see if its a match.

Yes, I agree that painting it a dark greige will cause it to recede

I was told the cabinets are a European brand- I am not sure as we bought the house with them. The backsplash is from tile bar

Stick on stainless steel strip? Brushed and not shiny. The floor is interesting choice with those cabinets.
