Patio door replacement suggestions

Hi,
Our patio door needs to be replaced due to age. I need help on deciding whether to replace with another sliding door or French doors. I’ve heard that sliding doors aren’t as secure as hinged doors (although after reading through numerous posts I can be convinced otherwise) and French doors aren’t as well sealed so can be drafty (but the newer models might be better). The last thing to consider is I’d like to use this door as the main point of entry/exit as it’s closest to the detached garage so definitely lockable from the outside. Attached is a photo of our current Marvin door (see muntin circled in red that fell off because this door gets intense afternoon sun). Also, any recommendations on brands/lines. I’ve already crossed Pella off due to numerous complaints I’ve read on these forums.

I have Andersen sliding doors and never had any issues not to mention the warranty department is excellent and they will send you parts if needed no questions asked. I also installed many of these doors and never had any issues whatsoever... I also replaced more french doors to sliding doors vs. the other way around.

French doors have more maintenance involved throughout its lifespan.

That said when swapping sliding doors for french door, in many cases the opening needs to be enlarged and the header also which adds to additional labor and the construction cost involving permit fees, drawings must be submitted to the township so you have to keep that in mind.

Other than that the stationary panel on french door will remain closed most of the time same as on the siding door and if you do plan to keep both sides open you need wall space on both sides unless the doors will be open 90 degrees which takes up lots of floor space.

Go to the windows forum to check on the door recommendations. I bought Provia based on their recommendations. Pricey but for security and quality, worth it..
