Please help me select a light fixtures for my hall

Hi. I am looking to purchase lighting for my hallway. The total length of the hall is 50’ but it is divided in the middle by a vestibule that currently has pot lights so the two wings to the left and right of the vestibule are about 16.5’ each. My ceilings are 9’ high and I was thinking of doing a combination of small pot lighting and pendants. This is a modular ranch out in the country and I am thinking of putting two of these pendants on each side. Is this too much?

I absolutely hate Edison buls for anywhere you actually need light they cast a yellow glow on everything and the amount of light is really useless. I would like to see the space and also some info as to your style.

Sorry, forgot to attach a photo of the hall. Here are three. The first shows the entire hallway from one side to the other, the second and third show either side of the vestibule. We would change out the bulbs to LED. Also, the hall is currently carpeted but soon will be reclaimed Elm. My style I think is a transitional/ modern farmhouse?

    Hi lots2sew,

Based on what we see in this hallway, it might be a better idea to just stick to recessed lighting only. We'd imagine that trying to put pendant light fixtures in this hallway would be hazardous, given the narrow hallway and relatively low ceiling height--unless they are short and close up against the ceiling like the one's you currently have there.

But if you absolutely want pendant light fixtures alongside recessed lighting, maybe these light fixtures might work from our sister brand Luxe Light and Home:

    Sorbonne

    Ducello

Both the Sorbonne and Ducello can be custom made as single pendants and the height can be customized as well. On top of that, you can certainly mix and match the glass shades. These are sold exclusively through the Kravet showrooms so we strongly encourage you to visit one near you so you can see the quality and workmanship yourself.

Alternatively, at Elements of Design, we have these light fixtures that are custom built to order that may work as well:

    Systo Petra 1 Chandelier Round

    Systo Pallino 1 Chandelier Round

The default OAH for these two Systo light fixtures is 30 inches each but these can be customized to be as short (or long) as you want.

We hope this information will help you make a more informed decision on your home needs.

Thanks so much for your comments Elements of Design. The pendants length is adjustable from 18.5” to 47”. Our ceilings are 9’. Do you think that would still be an issue?

I just don't see the value -- keep the lighting close to the ceiling, either pots or small flush fixtures. Pendants feel like something to duck under.

    Hi lots2sew,

We don't see it being an issue, unless you have some really tall guests over 6 feet tall that will be walking through this space frequently. However, we'd recommend speaking with an interior design professional or lighting architect that can give you some additional information on lighting your hallway.

Typically, recessed lighting would be best and pendant lighting can be used as auxiliary lighting to set a mood or if you just prefer a dimmer, intimate setting.

What state are you located in? Perhaps we can refer you to (or help you find) an interior designer in your area, if you're interested in pursuing this route. No pressure or obligation. :)

I have seen photos if the combination being done and like the look. I wanted some interest in the hall so I didn’t want just the sterile pot lights alone and hubby likes the detail on the top of these pendants. Since the hall is tall, long and dark, I figured putting something up there to fill the space would help. I am in Ontario Canada btw

    Hi lots2sew,

It's not a bad idea at all to put some pendant light fixtures, if you wanted to add some pizzazz and glam to the ceiling space so it's not so dull looking. We're just speaking from the perspective of practicality, as we are a custom lighting design manufacturer.

Creating a certain mood or what have you falls under the purview of an interior designer or lighting architect. On that note, we can refer you to these businesses that are both a showroom and provide interior design consultations:
