We wouldn’t go in this room often but it will be a guest room with a queen bed and a bunk bed. Expecting our first guests for Thanksgiving. Don’t think planting a canvas painting there would make the best design sense, would like to try and hide it as much as possible. I will be putting a large painting between the wall sconces.

I have this exactly in my basement bedroom! What I did is wall to wall curtains so it covers the electric panel.

Build a faux cabinet.

Paint it the same color as the wall and just trim out the edges. Then put up a drapery rod across the whole wall, with full drapes on both sides of the window. It will give the illusion of a larger window, and soften the space. It will also be functional for use as a bedroom.

How about a single shutter over the opening? Might have to be custom to get the right size.

I like Grover's picture...paint it the same color as the walls and leave it. I am thinking bookcases or furniture in front might not be best if, for some reason you need to get to the electric panel quickly.

No furniture in front of the panel! You must have access and, if it is hidden, you will forget where it is.

A tall leaning mirror is the best answer , angled in the corner. The view will expand, and for the very few times you need to get at it? No big deal to move a mirror to the side. Other wise.........remember it's a basement guest room, Have a panel cut and trimmed and paint it wall color. All of it. You won't be staring at it every day, neither will it bother a guest: )

What Lil posted this is the way to do it. Panel must be accessible and requires sufficient access and working space in front (min 3') to allow ready and safe operation, accessibility in case of emergency shut-off and maintenance.

You will need a window treatment of some sort for a bedroom. How about installing a rod across the wall, as high as possible. Fill both walls with fabric…there are some good extra wide black out curtains available on line.

For you to consider: my finished basement has a number of dropped ceilings that hold pipes, etc. I painted the ceilings the same as the walls and it has made a huge difference.

In your space you could paint the lower ceiling the wall color, put the bed under and it will look like a canopy.
