Countertop - Need Help

last modified: 7 years ago

We're remodeling our kitchen. Pictures below are the flooring (medium brown - no red or yellow tones) and two counter top options (Platinum Black Quartzite and Calacatta Luccia). Our cabinets will be white shaker. I love the dark counter top but am concerned about how it will go with the floors? Please help. Thanks in advance!

I don't love the dark gray with the wood floor. I like them both separately. I do like the lighter countertop with the wood floor you've chosen.

Thanks IIzzlesma - can you post a picture?

I have black countertops with white cabinets and a wood floor at our cottage. They aren't quartzite but you'll get the idea of the way the colors work with a medium oak floor. Not too dark if you make sure to lighten up other elements like paint, backsplash and hardware.

I have dark leathered granite countertops and medium brown flooring, with slightly off-white shaker cabinets. It works well (for me, anyway!). The break of white between the countertops and the floors probably helps. Get what you love!

    Love those pulls Mom ;)

Also love your side-handle double ovens...I came very close to getting some (Bosch) and envy how easy you ovens must be to open/get food in and out of!

    Here’s ours. I’m happy with it :)

ccwatters, yes they are Bosch! Very happy with them. I was long overdue for double ovens. And the side handle seems so logical - one wonders why they haven’t been more available before!

I think it really comes down to lighting. If there is enough lighting in the space having medium wood flors and a darker countertop should be fine. If the space is dark though having a darker countertop will only suck what little light there is.

I do like both counter tops - but think I'm just more drawn to the charcoal because I've seen so much of the white/veining in everyone's kitchens. And I'm concerned about white cabinets with white counter tops being too sterile/cold?

We'll have two large windows to the left of the kitchen, a window over the sink and french doors near the island. I think we'll have plenty of natural light in addition to actual lights (can and pendant over island). My main concern is how charcoal gray will "go" with wood floors? That's the thing that's keeping me awake at night. :)

Hardwood floors should be a neutral enough color that it will go with everything. That's why people use them. Do mine match my antique wood furniture through the house? No! For that matter, is all my antique wood the same color? Again, NO!

I'm not wild about the floor color. I'm assuming that this is pre-stained flooring that comes in certain colors only. Mine are all site-finished and I had them mix walnut with a red mahogany so it's a medium brown with some warmth. I find those floors awfully "flat" and dark.
