I definitely don’t see any of those as better at all. The raven looks like you tried to match what you have but didn’t. The others just aren’t nicer than what you have. IMO

your kitchen looks put together nicely. But I get that you just may be tired of it.

Get a new $260 hair color if you want to change something. The kitchen looks great as is. Spending 10-15K on new counters and rebuilding the island that is perfectly fine? Nope. Don’t do it. It won’t grow out like purple hair will.

IMO, the only thing I would change would be the runner rug...it is too light and doesn’t relate to anything else.

I don’t think your brown-toned granite is outdated at all. I also would NEVAH replace a sink with a smaller one. Most everyone who posts on here about their sink want to go larger, not smaller.

I agree, don’t do a smaller sink. However I do think your island looks a little out of place with the rest of the kitchen, which is pretty modern. Are you doing the island in a different color?

A few years ago we installed a new island in our kitchen as the original was tiny. We couldn’t make it wider, but we could push out into the dining/family room area and install a 30” stove replacing the 36” stove for more counter space. we put ceasarstone raven on the perimeter counters and ceasarstone Carrara marble on the island which is the light twin to the raven.I used wainscoting on the island and perimeter backsplash to unify the kitchen remodel. The stone installers thought it was weird that the two counters were different although it was trending in magazines at the time and now is quite common. For some reason I am having trouble posting photos grrrrr! Will try later.

Thanks for all the comments. I am looking to redo the island for two reasons. First, I absolutely HATE the sink. It dents easily, it always looks dirty and, despite the fact that it is considered an undermount, it has a lip around the inside that holds dirt. Second, there is not enough counter space between the faucet and the front edge. When people gather around the kitchen the end stools get filled and no one wants to sit in the middle because the faucet is in your face. I would never go to the expense of replacing the granite if I didn't have to do it to correct these 2 problems. What I need to decide is what to use for the replacement.

Not sure if a couple of inches bigger on the island is really going to make a Difference. these changes aren’t big enough to have much impact I’m afraid. Don’t blame you for wanting a new sink. Could do an apron sink and keep your granite.

I'd trim out the island so that it looks finished, and then paint. see how this one is done?

plenty of how -to's. it's simple 4" trim pieces.

Since you have white subway tile, I'd either do a white quartz top (or a white quartzite) and darker island, or do white island and the same black quartz top. (or you could do white and a maple butcher block. lots of combos)

Since your concern is the sink, go ahead and replace it, but don't go smaller. if doing a new top, go further back w/the overhang. (do you have space for another 6-10" ? ) You'd have to add support and there is a few ways to do it.

add onto the island w/cubbies, but you'd have to widen it as well. can you go bigger?

here's what I mean

or, add onto the base by bringing out some supports and wrap them in tongue and groove, paint.

another option is just adding legs. all of these will let you go w/a bigger overhang

the other option is to go up

you could do a wood bar top or whatever granite/quartz you pick

A good counter fabricator will ask you if you want a lip or not. The answer would be “no lip....straight down counter-into-sink for the easiest cleanup”. You may still need to use the toothbrush if there is any gap, but it won’t get yucky so quickly.

How much room do you have behind the island for chairs and how wide is the island now?

Hi, I commented back on 9/15 but couldn’t get pictures to load, the island countertop is the exact match to raven in pattern and I believe is called “Carrara”.

scartledge, have you thought about painting the island? Maybe it's the pic, but the maple wood next to the bamboo sitting under that modern new quartz top, just doesn't work all that well.

are there steel supports in the overhang?

I'd also trim out that island so that it looks finished.

I hope that extended counter on the island has strong steel support brackets! I don’t see anything obvious supporting the overhang.
