OLLD 7/26

I guess I will start today and am hoping our missing lovelies will come around and say hello today! Looking like a wet weekend for our ladies two-day challenge against "that club down the street"... hoping it will co-operate though so we can have a nice event. What's on the agenda today for everyone?

Hi y' all!! Doing well, did some business this a.m. in re: licensing, insurance, incorporating...Off to see a few more ladies and then get ready for the lake!! I had one mammogram in my 30's and it went well. I know it can be a difficult experience for some. Have a great day all!! xoxox

Have a great time at the lake, Jayme! xoxo

    Great visual, Roo! Love it!

Busy cleaning out every drawer and closet in the bedroom inorder to give hubby more space. Tedious work but so worth it when done. If only they would stay organized!

The bed is here, the bed is here.

@Tras. You have a lot of transitioning to do, sending a daughter off to college, and having your husband home from being deployed for so long.
(Maybe you could get your DH to wear an eye mask in bed so the light from your laptop does not bother him when you are playing on Houzz late at night! tee hee)
@Angela. Looking forward to the photos later this afternoon!
Up. Blech. I always feel so horrid on my first day off. I definitely didn't drink enough water last night.

Kimdee - it seems like the rain only comes when I'm off work this summer, so sorry about that. I've contemplated switching platoons just to try to get some decent weather in... so frustrating!
Not even gonna consider touching the boob topic... well, I would touch ... but not.... you know what I mean. Good Gawd ladies......I don't need that mental image bouncing around my head......I'm married you know.....happily.

Angela put your bed together. Kimdee go hit some balls........those little white ones.... and Roo, first, no man would consider putting his nuts through that procedure, we may not be the smartest thing walking on 2 legs, but even we know better than to do that........the closet I've been to that was pole vaulting, if you lose your grip on a pole that is bent........well, you've heard that law of physics about for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction..........it's true! I ended up on the ground in a fetal position with a 2.5" red welt that when from my forehead, down my face, neck, chest, stomach just to the right of my belly button and to just about my ankle on the inside of my leg............the worst part was the female doctor who cam running over and pulled my shorts off after watching the whole tragic event and grabbed my..... well, package and proceed to give me a sound pressure filled exam right then and there............as I struggled to breath again, she proclaimed everything felt okay (I kid you not) but that I would be out of commission for a couple of days for any extra curricular activities...........one of the little track managers said she sure hoped that meant I couldn't jump for a couple of day as we had a date that night.........................................................................................................me I just wanted to breath!
Oh my. She just wanted to cop a feel !!! Oh, don't worry this is for medicinal purposes, just lay back and pretend there's nothing happening. You poor thing, that was not a pretty story, but it did make me smile a bit, sorry :)
STK-wow is all I can say.
STK...HA ha ha!!! That is damn funny! Interesting she wasn't more worried about your c-spine (cervical spine) vs. your package.....I wonder what the heck her specialty was.
-Well anyhooooo, getting ready to go camping, but had to snoop around here first. Got a message today about building a deck & doing some other work.
@Linda...if u come on today....got a few calls from companies (non-local), that staff maintenance/handyman jobs for customers in the area, paying the "handyman" an hourly wage as an "employee". Planning to focus more on the carpentry (as that is his winning talent).
Hope u all have a wonderful weekend....
    STK...no pole vaulting!

No Jayme... my pole vaulting days are but a distant memory of years gone by..... and the reason she was so worried about my package was that was what took the brunt of the blow so to say......when the weight is released from a bent pole it responds in the opposite direct before it straightens out and that's what slammed me. I actually landed on my feet and then dropped to the ground.........only about 12' from where I was.......still, I was lucky...... I've seen worse. At the National meet in Dallas a year later, a vaulter from A&M had his pole break in during his jump and the lower half shot up, hitting him square in the mouth.......they rushed him to the ER, it took 3 different surgeries and he was in a halo a braces for 6 month while his jaw healed (broke in 6 places), plus lost all his teeth save the molars and 240+ stitches to close the gashes.....3 inches lower and the Doctors said it would have gone completely through his throat killing him instantly..............pole vaulting is not for the timid. Most people who try it freak out the first time they really bend the pole, because you start to rise and then the bottom falls out and you go down, then you start to rise again.... most will let go of the pole when they start down and that's the worst thing you can do........ I reached a height of 17'-9" in college....at that time I was 5" off the world's record..... until a guy named Dave Roberts upped the record by 4" that same year. Sergei Bubka holds the world's record still at 20'-2-1/8"/

Isn't new furniture fun! Always feels like Christmas for mom. When the carpet got laid on our stairs Tuesday I wanted to dance! Enjoy your bed!

STK, that is brutal and quite impressive.

    Mammograms save lives:)
I know they save lives thst is why I deal with the agony and pain.
Etzia, I like your way of thinking!! I will find one tomorrow, but I'll put it with other items in a pretty basket so he won't know what I'm up to. ;). The basket will also include those snore strips. Desperate to know if those work!
Morning all, I think I will leave the body parts subject alone - perish the thought someone might start posting photos!!

Tras, I hope you are culling while you are organising - good excuse. Have you looked at the Ikea drawer organisers? Of course you have to have the right sized drawers, but they are really great to use.

Miss 7 loves eye masks, she was introduced to them on the planes and has worn them since. Of course the airline ones don't last long so DD found her a really cute furry one with a cat's eyes and nose on it that she loves. Wonder if a Spiderman one would tempt him??

Robin - beautiful story, thanks for sharing, sort of "Yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus" in July.

Angela - love those cushions, your bed looks fabulous.

    @Robin -- what a great story!
    @STK -- OMG, that's all i can say!
@Angela -- room looks great, congratulations!
Boy, I wish they did!!! There's something that's called snore extinguish or something like that, it's basically a saline solution thing and they can spray it in throat before bed, that worked a bit. Try it in conjunction with snore strips. Nothing is permanent but it may give you a little break from hearing him saw logs all night long. Trust me, I know the agony of the non snoring light sleeper. It's incredible they don't keep themselves up with all the racket :)
Good morning, Ms Roo! Hope you had a great sleep!

Like ships that pass in the night, good morning and goodnight roo
    Goodnight all :)
I did thank you Kd and woke to a glorious day. I think the weather is making up for all that rain we had and we have now had the warmest July ever - temps are hovering around the 20-22 every day but the nights are really cold - down to single figures with a few minuses out west. Just hope it isn't a sign of a too hot summer, especially after the heat many of you guys have been getting.

Morning Roo, what's on the agenda for today
  • 13 years ago
Good day, good night whatever is is to you. I read the thread earlier in the day but just now realized I didn't say hello to all. Hi everyone, interesting topics today, I sure had a grin from ear to ear :)
Candace, get off this computer and get my butt in gear first, then some food shopping. How long that takes depends on how many people I meet that I know - supermarket shopping is a social event here.
I never see anyone I know when I'm out shopping. I must live in too big a city. Or I don't know anyone. That's probably it. ;)

My daughter (19) and a friend are upstairs doing some sort of video chat for some group video with several segments from different people. When I got home this afternoon, she was looking for some help to get the set made. She needed a large compass for making a decoration so we found a short piece of molding from my stash and drilled holes...one close to the end for a screw coming just through the wood and then I drilled pencil holes in the molding for the two sizes she wanted. Her friends had tried to tell her to use a string and a pencil and she was getting frustrated trying to make it work.

Then she needed help to get a black background. I ended up sewing loops onto a piece of black fabric and putting it on a vertical blind track which I had stashed for my (eventually!) upcoming window covering project. Then she sat one end of the track on top of the door and held the other end up with a studio type light that had a telescoping pole so she could get it up to the same height as the door. Now, she and her friend are chattering and laughing and I may have to tell them to quiet down as it is just about my bedtime now

Wow, the "pay it forward" coffee craze that started in Edmonton on Monday has been repeated 12 times across the country this week, Pretty cool :)
That sounds like a very innovative project!

Tras, if your husband is one of those horrific snorers, please have him partake in a sleep study. Most people with severe snoring problems have some level of sleep apnea.....this could be anywhere from a mild case to life threatening......my wife suffered from my sleep apnea to the point that she got ear plugs......I would snore then I would stop breathing, then I would wake up gasping for a breath and snorting.......a sleep study reveled that my breathing stopped on an average of 57 times per hour for the time when I should have been in deep sleep. looking at the chart print out, there were whole sections during the night that were completely solid black. As my doctor said, I was just a heart attack or stroke waiting to happen......not to mention I was actually functioning in a state of chronic sleep deprivation, which was disguised due to the fact that I routinely functioned on 4-5 hours of sleep per night for most of my early career.........when the tumor started growing, that's when the sleep apnea started and just got worse as time progressed. After my diagnosis and the second surgery, the sleep apnea decreased almost entirely........so for the sake of your husband's health and your peace of mind, convince him that a sleep study is needed.

Kimdee - you never know when you will meet someone you know! The funny thing for me is I don't meet people close to home; it always seems to happen to me when I'm in England. The wildest coincidental meeting was when we were visiting London a couple years after we had left. I decided to take the kids to Hampton Court Palace since we had never been there. We met up with a Hungarian gal who had lived with us for a few months...she had returned to Hungary but she was also visiting London for a short time and had never been to Hampton Court so she just decided to go there on a whim as well.

Another time I was standing at a London bus stop with my kids and saw my old boss walk by on the street...4,000 miles away from our previous interactions...

Holy moly, between the bike and now the coffee, aren't Edmontonians wonderful. Hey OLLD friends, the three you know certainly are....it's how we roll :) Here's a quick read about the coffee, in our local paper.

When I do run into someone I know, chances are, I will be looking as bad as I possibly can -- because I decided I'd just run out for something, and who cares... I won't see anyone I know! Murphy's Law.

I concur with STK -- sleep study. I have a friend who is a respiratory therapist and sleep apnea is her specialty. She has told me countless stories about people who just simply quit breathing in the night -- many, many times.

Can, what a great story!! Love it!! Warms the heart!

I don't think hubby's snoring is quite there yet. He's not bad, just a little everyonce in awhile. I'm one of those people who have to sleep with no light and either complete silence or a little white noise. We've noticed if he smokes a cigar or has a glass of wine/beer it is worse. A little giggle, but when he does it I can't help but think of War of the Roses. Does anyone remember that movie? When she sticks her fingers in his nostrils while he snores..... I have to admit, I love that movie. But, I've been told on more then one occasion I have a very odd sense of humor and like the oddest of movies. C'est la vie
  • 13 years ago
Kimdee, I got a good giggle...I can't tell you how many times that has happened to me. A quick run to the store in my sweats because I need just a few items and don't feel like stopping what I'm doing to clean up and I see someone I know. One time I saw an old friend from high school and he recognized me...ugggghhh, what does that say about me? I looked terrible, paint everywhere! I just laughed it off and caught up with him.
