E design feedback

Does anyone have any great feedback on doing edesign?
I just purchased a sofa that doesnt go well with my home and I'm so frustrated and over trying to decorate. I wish I could afford a full on designer but e design seems to be more affordable for me. Thanks

An Edesign can be consider Design Conceptualization, though is doesn’t provide the same level of service or quality. Depending on the firm you decide to work with you may receive Concept Board (Mood Board) with Product Purchase list and extra cost for Floor and Space Plans. Not including organization or scheduling.

Edesigns usually work by the room (not by square footage) averaging $300-$500 per room, so if you are doing 1 or 2 rooms and do not need scale, plans or scheduling, then this is a great option. Also be aware of cheaper pricing as this could mean design regurgitations, for example clients who prefer Contemporary styles will be sold similar products, furniture and décor, to save processing time.

From your post it seems that a Decorator would be a better option over an Interior Designer, as Decorators usually charge less and need less time to complete the project, could cost about $85-$175 per room (Thumbtack.com). Free consultations are hard to find but still a thing, you can request a free consultation and ask about scale and sizing as well as style. You’d probably receive rough or raw information that can go a long way in helping you through your design dilemma.

There are applications that can do this for free. For example, the Decorator app allows you to load your images and get design help from a community of people. Homestyler allows you to upload or draw your floor plan, design your room and create an itemized list of materials, furniture and decoration. Houzz also has a view in my room option that will allow you to visualize products in your room before you purchase them.

A word of caution; For a designer/decorator to create a concept in its entirety they must visit the space. Decoration is multi layered, meaning the best designer/decorator will bring together your style, the style of your space and the functionality of the design amongst other factors.

Read and re-read what the Edesign service will actually deliver for the price, you may not be getting what you need. You’d rather figure it out for free than to spend money and work harder.

    Hope this is helpful!

Thanks Alley, I think more for me is that I cant get the pieces i purchase to mesh well,o that's why i thought e design would work a bit better. Also I have looked in my area at interior designers and most seem to have a different style from what I like. I will look up the decorator option and see if they are any in my area. Thanks again.

Hi Alley, this is the sofa I purchased. it seems that I love the contemporary look but dont have the full contemporary home (face palm). if you could find some ideas that would be great. I have tried pinterest and houzz but everything is always a gray wall and that's what I have so I get very confused with my inspiration and color. I tried to add the blue pillows to see since that's all I had at home and I wasnt impressed.
The second photo is what I had and I wanted something more neutral.

    thanks for your help

Looks Good! Because you have a Bar on the wall already, move the small table if possible to the area where the black stool is, hangs the mirror horizontally in that place instead. If your walls are going to be a shade of gray and you want to add pops of color, I suggest shades of Rose or Periwinkle. When laying pillows you want to create a sense of symmetry with them and use at least one rectangular pillow or pillow roll, make sure your pillows do not block the chair design. Also rich textured fabrics like velvet, suede or faux fur. When laying you're throw blanket accentuate the length of the lounger. Lay an area rug with a thick or high low pile. Near the wall hang three small art pieces or one medium and one small piece, play with the art pieces before you put holes in the walls. Change the knobs to something more fun maybe crystals or decorative it should incorporate the color palette. I am going to create an IdealBook for you "Fancy Pants"

Alley, sorry I was typing fast in the previous comment and had some typos. I was saying that all of the inspiration photos I have found have gray walls and the white sofa goes much better as opposed to the cream/beige. You can see in the new photos I took just how creamy my walls are lol.

I took some photos of the table and mirror..the table wont fit on that wall because it is longer than you can see.

The art I purchased about 2 weeks ago to have something to move around the room. I probably wont keep it.

I was on rugsusa earlier scooting rugs. I'm guessing that needs to be my starting point .

    Hi Again!

Hope all is well! I made you an Ideabook last week the link will be below in case you haven’t seen it. As I look at the photos the console table could possibly fit under the window (the reflectivity of the metal and glass will add light to the area). The great thing about Contemporary Style is that it brings together the trends of the times, you can’t go wrong! Also, your Home Design is a working art piece, judge it when it is done. FancyPants

Thanks Ally, I have another thread on here but I'm not sure how to link it. there were great ideas given in there as well. I think I am leaning to the blush or possibly turquoisy blue. The other thread I have going has the art work which has basically the color swatches you have here.
