Are you quilting this weekend? Sept. 20-22

Hello Quilters! It is a bright and beautiful day here in Columbus, Ohio. I plan to spend the day in my sewing room with my daughter and her 3 yo. I have several projects to work on and plan to do whatever sounds like the most fun to sew.

On Tuesday I attended Featherweight Club and worked on two quilts for my granddaughters. I had several candy print FQs that I made into "candy twist" blocks. I was planning to put sashing between the blocks with bright cornerstones. Well, I was talking and just sewed the blocks together w/o the sashing. So... I decided to use the bright cornerstone squares and the sashing to make borders for the quilts. They will be a little smaller but that will be OK.

I'm starting another Piece O' Cake applique project from her Aunt Millie series. I just have to have something to stitch on while I sit and ponder the next big quilt. And, I can lay it down for awhile if I get off on something else. My hubby has a colonoscopy tomorrow - You'd think they are going to kill him! - so I'll be doing some driving and sitting tomorrow and as I baby him through his jello and broth. What a whiner.

I do plan to get in some sewing time. I plan to go out for a while tomorrow. My little neighbor, who has been helping me since my surgery, invited me to a charity BBQ that his church is doing. The proceeds go to buy coats for under-privileged kids. I can go get lunch while helping a needy cause. Other than that, I want to work on my grandson's big boy quilt. Maybe I can get it done before he is a grow boy. LOL

LOL, Linda. My sister and I miss exits on the highway when we are busy talking.

I planned on spending the day with my sister, it's her birthday today. We were at lunch and got a call my husband's traveling kidney stone was on the move, so we came home until the pain stopped and then went to a local antique store instead of heading up into Michigan. She's the sister I'm hoping will go to retreat with me next year and she said she would be interested.

I'm heading upstairs right now to start quilting the coin quilt. I'll cut batting for another quilt I want to sandwich this weekend. Last weekend I made two BOM blocks and will post them next.

Last night I made two more Blackford's Beauty blocks for my latest scrappy Bonnie Hunter quilt. Twelve down; eight to go. I might sandwich the baby quilt top I finished a couple weeks ago. Or the lotto winnings quilt top. Depends on how ambitious I feel.

As usual, I have a couple projects in the works and have an idea of 'enhancing' one of them to use some other sized blocks with the same theme. I finally have the batting and backing cut and ready to sandwich the baby quilt, so should get on that, too.

Bev2009, I do hope you and your sister go to retreat next year. I absolutely know you'll enjoy it!

I dropped DH off for his two hour therapy session yesterday afternoon and came home, went downstairs to the machine and started sewing some blocks for a floor quilt for the new baby due next month. I did some more this morning but the more I look at it, the less I like it. So I may hit the fabric store tomorrow for some more flannel. Hope I find something.

Just when I was in the mood and had time to sew!

I went to the Jacksonville QuiltFest on Friday and had a great time! Lots of beautiful quilts to admire. I bought three pieces of wide backing fabric - 3 yards wide X 3 yards long - for $35 each. It's always nice to not have to piece a backing for a large quilt!

I'm taking a break from quilting this weekend and sewing a dress. I haven't made garments in quite a while. I have fabric and patterns for several more items.

Having a good chuckle here, Linda. Do you think men have an extra gene for whining?

i must say though that my DH does not complain a whole lot. His biggest whine is about not being able to drive. Give it a rest, already!

Donna, good deal on the quilt backs.

I have the Ribbon Dance quilt I made at retreat in the frame. Hope to make good progress on it this weekend. Hubby goes back to work tomorrow, so should have lots of quilting time.

I've gotten another two Blackford's Beauty blocks finished - six left to go. I also sandwiched the baby quilt and made a strip binding for it - a first for me. I sewed about ten WOF pastels together and then cut them on a 45 degree angle. Sewed those strips together to make the binding. I'm going to go quilt the quilt now and hope to get the binding on tonight yet too. I found a cute zoo animal print minky for the backing. I hope to have a picture for you soon.
