If you haven't done it already, start with a floor plan showing existing condition which allows you to see and configure some options for the new design.

Nice large bathroom. You say you want to reposition the tub, are you getting a new one? If so measure from the corner to the cabinet to be sure you have room to rotate the tub. Can this tub be rotated if you are keeping it- I am not sure where the faucet would be then. It would help if you could take a pic standing back further to show us the whole space rather than the bits. I see a lot of potential for a gorgeous bath.

I hope this photo is better! I would like a new tub and put it against the wall in order to expand the shower. I thought I wanted a jacuzzi bath tub until I started reading about their maintenance on this website. Thanks for the comments.

I love the fact that you are planning before financing. A woman after my own heart! Don 't forget to plan a new floor if you change the tub. Looks like you have lots of area and storage so that puts you ahead of the game. You need color in that room and texture. I would recommend a professional bathroom renovator. Why re- invent the wheel. Find ideas that you like in magazines and on line to guide the process then you can find out what you have to save for.

You can start slow by replacing lights and knobs. moving on to counter tops and faucets. Then do a new shower surround. I think I would save the tub replacement for last.

Ok, that photo really helped. Thank you! My first thought is installing a pocket door for your toilet room. This will free up a ton of space for you. What about flipping the tub and shower areas? This would allow you to put in a free standing tub and the light from the window would showcase it. Your shower could then be 60" x 48"- a great size. Or you could do a 48" x 48" and make the second vanity larger. Run a ledge on the whole wall into the shower to allow for shelving for the shower and tub.

You've got good bones to start with especially having such a large space. Whatever you decide to replace the gold finishes with, don't forget the door handles and hinges.

I hope my skecth of your bathroom can help you to remodel it. Using tempered glass partition on your shower, it will show such a large space on your bathroom.

I think the 90's was probably the most boring design decade. The 80's was crazy, the 70's was interesting, but the 90's was pant suits and big glasses with gold trims.

Hi, nice bathroom space to work with! I agree that the bathroom needs some colour though. I (and this is just my opinion) would change out the gold knobs and trim. If you are going to modernise your bathroom, things like knobs need to be modernised too, and the good news is that these will be the most inexpensive to replace. The designer in me also thinks that you should budget in some new towels and a couple of accessories--if you are treating yourself to a new bathroom, new towelling will complete your gorgeous new look, and again, it is inexpensive compared to the overall cost of renos....good luck!

Until you have enough money to do the project, PAINT. I just did a large bath like yours with white fixtures, wood cabinet and multicolored beige(kind of a roman style tumbled porcelain). It is a deep beige-grey to pick up some colors in the tiles. It really looks great and I am satisfied with the room for now. I may paint the cabinet flat black and the accent tiles dark too.

but seriously, if you want to do a quick spruce-up, it's really not all that bad, just paint the walls a taupe color to add some depth, replace the gold bits with chrome (new faucets, light fixtures, door handles e.t.c. and remove the pictures and mats. You could reuse the faucets, lighting e.t.c. when you decide to redo the whole thing!

We had a 90's bathroom with a tiny shower and a HUGE corner "garden" tub as well...... never used the tub and it took up SOOOOO much space! so, we completely got rid of the corner tub and made that area a huge walk-in shower - then, where our shower was we had new custom vanities and cabinetry built and exteneded it to where the shower was. If you want to keep a tub, i would do a freestanding tub, either swap the area of the tub and shower - or even angle the tub out into the bathroom (you seem to have plenty of floor space to do that!) I will attach a few pics to show you what we ended up doing in our bathroom - much easier to see than explain! Have fun with your re-model!

By the way, we replaced with window with a frosted rain design type window - you cant see thru it and its really pretty! (you can see it in the last pic)

Thanks for the picture, but do you have a picture of the exterior window from the view inside the shower.

So many good ideas. Can people see into that window? My neighbors are fairly close.
