I guess "big" is relative, given how large this JM can grow :-) IMO, that's a pretty moderately sized one............even bordering on the small end.

Personally, I would have preferred a larger clear trunk span before branching, as is more common with this cultivar. But that form does look like it could eventually develop into an interesting shape with some judicious pruning.

That's the largest Japanese maple I have seen for sale in Texas. You can see the one I got last year in the foreground. The tree is 7 feet tall and about 5. ft wide. Can't imagine what you would pay for a larger potted one.
