This year I tried growing impatiens and begonias in these rail Planters I bought. Things turned out horrible this year. My impatiens only bloomed once then the plants turned to a shriveled mess. The main stalks feel soft. I made sure I drilled holes in the bottom of the planters for drainage. I used Miracle Grow Moisture Control potting soil. My deck doesn’t get a lot of light, and in fact I had the planters on the same side of the house as my impatiens I planted inside the holes of one of those Featherock planters. The impatiens in the Featherock are doing awesome.

I stuck my finger in the dirt to see what the moisture was doing in the planter, and the top few inches were dry. But as I got close to the middle/bottom part the moisture felt decently adequate. I’ve tried watering less and things died. I tried watering more and things died. Anyone have ideas of what’s going on?
