kitchen remodeling help

Hi everyone, I am planning to get my kitchen remodel. Planning to keep the granite counter on island but want to change the black perimeter. Change the cabinets and backsplash too. My first dilemma is choosing the countertop for my perimeter:

  1. what type of granite will go with my island? I am not happy with black perimeter, as it requires lots of maintenance. I have to go for less busy / plain looking countertop in the perimeter, which is hard to find in granite- if I don’t like black. And anyhow I don’t want similar looking kitchen after remodel. Any suggestions?

  2. will cream/ light brown quartz go in perimeter. Will it match the countertop on my current island? I am thinking cream colored countertop with dark brown cabinets/ white cabinets on perimeter.

  3. reviews on white/ cream cabinets. Are they hard to maintain? I do a lot of cooking. Do wiping them with water/ soap or commercial products often, spoil them.

Where in the kitchen is the fridge? If you're redoing the cabinets wouldn't it be better to get a better plan?

I agree. Is this floor plan and island shape working for you? If you're going to do a full demo of the perimeter, why not demo the island and improve the floor plan?

As for white cabinets... I had them in my last house and loved them. No issue with keeping clean and I cook everyday. We are installing them in our current kitchen now. To be honest, I find darker cabinets a little more difficult to keep clean as every speck of dust and all fingerprints are visible on them.

I have added a pic for the other side of island. I hope it will help with some suggestions. I have to change wall color and wall paper too. Thanks

Yes the floor plan is working for me. I can understand island shape looks strange but it was built that way by previous owner perhaps to get adequate walking space. If I go for a clean rectangle island, then it will be a small island to keep the adequate walking space.

Also the cabinet quality is not good. All greasy stuff and base of cabinet is peeling out. I have attached pics of the same. N there is a big issue with the vent. It’s going from inside of my cabinets in top. I have attached pics of the same. So have to change that too.

I would leave the cabinets as is and get a countertop that is a creamy white with little to no movement since your granite is so busy:

I would also replace your existing backsplash with a solid color subtle ceramic tile.

Then, paint the walls Sherwin Williams Alabaster (reads a warm crisp white in real life):

Are you ok walking around your island every time you need something in the fridge? The island is a barrier as it is now.

How much space is between the island and the refrigerator?

How much room is between the perimeter counters and the island?

People can adapt to any layout no matter how bad. However that doesn't mean you shouldn't rethink the layout to get the best you possibly can if you're replacing the cabinets.

Space between island and fridge is 42 inches with doors closed and 28 inches with door open. Distance between island and perimeter is about 36-38'' inches. But I cant think of any other way I can build a bigger island, if I go for a rectangle island- it will be small one to create a comfortable walking space. I was thinking to keep the island to keep the cost down.

I went to home depot and got inclined towards quartz : Viatera-Alba. Creamish with brown veins in it. WIll that look good? Husband is not able to envision it. Attached is the pic of my inspiration from pinterest.
