Does anyone have any tips on protecting a grafted silver maple? Two weeks ago I grafted a silver maple cutting from a large silver maple growing by my patio onto a 4 year old silver maple I have growing in a pot. I used the side venner graft and wrapped it with parafilm. This last weekend I unwrapped it to see the progress of the graft and the leaf stems I left on the scion turned brown and fell off with little to no resistence leaving behind healthy look buds on the stick and wrapped it back up with more parafilm. I live in northern missouri and it usually gets pretty cold here and can get down to 0 at times. I dont see much callus at the graft union yet but seems to have fused to the rootstalk tree.
