Do you have real life pictures of any of your finishes? What is your granite called? Are your perimeter cabinets gray or is that just the rendering?

Thanks for answering! It is called Swan Gray. I attached a picture. the cabinets we bought are painted maple, and we can select any color we want. I had just mentioned light gray and the bold blue for the island as a possibility, so they put it in the rendering.

The refrigerator door doesn't look like it will clear the filler on the right. Have the designer check that.

We went back and forth on that a lot... ultimately they added the about a wall about a half foot wide next to it, and said that should be fine... but yeah, I am not so sure.

Are you going to keep the blue color on the island? If so, I think you'll be fine with a nice bright white for your cabinets. It will make the island pop and you can always accent with rugs, canisters, towels in fun colors.

Is that the flooring you are using as well? It looks to me like there are a lot of grays in it too.

swan gray granite is better known as New Caladonia. it's an entry level granite.

I don't think halcyon green (although I love that color) will work.

Stick with white or very pale gray cabinets. you've got a granite that limits your color selection.

It possible you may be able to do a blue/gray. Like Smoke. but no greens

why can't you change the granite selection?

It is the only included granite color, unfortunately, and my husband won't allow me to upgrade to the white quartz since it would be an additional $4,000, which is absurd.

Depending on software the rendering can be inaccurate. Note that the sink isn’t actually shown in the render, but the faucets are. That could also be what is happening with fridge. It’s dimensions in the drawing are wrong.

Heather,,,is this a builder option? Are they charging you more for the swan gray? If so, you're getting ripped off. (especially since that granite is bottom of the barrel cost-wise) builders make the majority of their money on upgrades.

what you could do is take the absolute builder basic that's included with your kitchen (spend nothing extra for countertops) and wait until you move in. then call in a fabricator and have your quartz done then.
for a simple white quartz countertop, it shouldn't cost any more than a standard granite, since both prices for slabs are about equal.

Also, they make pre-fabricated white quartz countertops. a 9' pre fab one could cost about $450.

Yes, it is a bit of a hassle, and it takes some time but, some "upgrades" that can be done after closing can save you a ton of money. Twenty years ago Mom wanted granite countertops (builder charge $8k). Builder installed laminate, same granite done after close $3k.

I can't help you with colors, but if you can upgrade to all drawers, you will have a much more functional kitchen.

For a beach house I would keep it simple. Take the granite and paint some lemony yellow cabinets with pewter or black hardware. ...or even faceted glass knobs , maybe white porcelain. I'd try for some glass doors on the uppers . Island : dark navy or white. Ideally you should get better offerings but many a Formica counter has gone in 2nd homes and people still make memories and have fun.

I think white cabinets would look great with a fun blue island! Personally I would stay away from light grey...to me it just looks dull and makes me wonder if it’s supposed to be white or grey. ;) Plus you already have the grey in your counters. Good luck!

I just found out I could have Uba Tuba as included granite as well! Any thoughts on the Uba tuba, with the halcyon green, and white subway tile??

are you paying any extra for these granite tops? any at all?

are you reading anything (we've posted, above) about how builders charge you guys thousands and thousands more to install these granite tops?

(uba tuba is also entry level and a very cheap granite to buy outright ) here they are in a pre fab countertop and can be had for about $400 each

it's better than your other choice, but not if you have to pay extra for it

they do have a Verde Ubatuba which would work w/your green

It is actually going to be our full time residence- even though it is at the beach. I am just afraid the uba tuba might be too bold... but I just really hate the swan gray! I doubt my husband will allow me to switch out the granite once we have the house, so I’ll probably be living with it for awhile

I really prefer the gray -- it's a very liveable stone. Uba Tuba is bossy.

Stick with 1st granite and white perimeter. Love the fun color Island. It will look good.

if you hate the swan gray, and your husband won't 'allow' you to have anything different, then go w/the uba tuba, surround it w/light colored walls, flooring and tile. the Halcyon would look best w/this one, but do a bright white on the other cabs and a very light sage green glass subway tile. a bright white subway would be a bit too much contrast right next to that stone, and since you're near the beach, a soft 'beach glass' would work best

this combo, a natural white oak flooring, would look very nice

or a wood look tile, or limestone look porcelain tile, would also look nice at the beach

Is granite included in the basic build, or is it an upgrade? You can't opt for a laminate counter instead? Ask the builder if you can forego the granite for a discount. Then, plan on buying your own granite, one that you really like and will work nicely with the green or blue cabinets (an idea that I love, BTW!)

If you have no choice and must accept one of the granites, I vote for UbaTuba. It is multicolored stone, but in my opinion (having seen it in person at my neighbor's) it is much less "bossy" than the black and white speckled one. Either green or blue will work with UbaTuba, but I'm not sure that Halcyon is quite the right green (my computer might be throwing it off though.) Find a sample of the UbaTuba and try the paint chip against it before you commit.

Though I’ve never owned it, I have always loved to look at Uba Tuba. I love the depth, the sparkle. I think it’s a classic. And it is one of the naturally hardest granites available so you don’t have to seal it quite as often. (Some folks never seal it.) Gray granite makes me think of tombstones.

If you don’t want white perimeter cabinets with that speckly Gray granite I would opt for the uba tuba and the halcyon you choose, I think that cabinet color is pretty for a Beach house. I much prefer that look to the original you posted.

Nice to read praise for uba tuba. It is as someone else said, practically bullet proof. I think it is plentiful so demand and supply wise it is low priced, but there is nothing inferior about it.
