IKEA!!!

We did a Ikea kitchen for my son's house a few years ago. It looked good in the end but we weren't sure about the quality? I have seen several other companies online. That look high quality? anyone use any of them?

I've spoken to so many GCs who have changed their opinion (for the better) on IKEA that I really wish we'd gone that route.

If I were doing it over again, I'd probably hire a private IKEA kitchen specialist who guides rookies through all the options. One example: South Bay Kitchens

J&K Cabinets are quality RTA cabinets. They are all wood, no cheap MDF. The boxes are plywood construction & solid maple fronts. They come with soft close,too. Here's a link to the catalog. The info on the construction is in the middle. I have used them often & my clients are happy. Hopefully there is a local dealer to see them in person. Some local dealers will even assemble them for you.

I highly suggest seeing cabinets in person before purchasing.

If considering ordering online, order just 1 of the base cabinets of the layout to inspect the cabinet quality & experience the service & delivery method. If things go great, great, then order the rest. If things do not go as hoped, no big deal, your'e out 1 cabinets, but you avoided getting stuck with a bunch of cabinets you did not like.

I would also start visiting local cabinet stores. I have found these stores have better service, products, & prices compared to the big box stores. I save at least 30% compared to the big box buying from smaller,local cabinet shops.

I avoid import RTA’s. There are way too many issues. Conestoga, Scherrs, and Barker are your American made options. They are good to excellent custom quality. The pricing correlates. They are not “cheap”. But they are not built cheap either. Some portions of IKEA are American made. None of J&K is American made.

RTA’s are not always the budget option that people assume. Sometimes assembled is the better option.
