Extra Wide King Sheets

My husband and I recently upgraded to a king size bed, but finding sheets that fit has been a struggle. Our new mattress is 15" deep. I've been able to find deep pocket fitted sheets that fit fine, but the flat top sheet is never wide enough. Even Cuddledown, whose sateen I was going to try because it is highly rated, offers the option of either a 16" or 21" deep pocket on the fitted sheet, but their flat sheet is only 108" wide. That only leaves 1 inch to tuck in on each side, or probably 0 inches once they've been washed a few times and shrink a bit. Ideally I'd need at least 112" width to be able to actually tuck in the sheets on both sides.

The really odd thing is, some of these sheets have lengths of 115" or more! That leaves a good 20" to be tucked in on the bottom of the mattress, yet nothing for the sides. I just don't get it. I could just rotate the sheet 90 degrees, but then I'd lose the decorative hem on top.

Thanks! I'm also interested to see if any has any recommendations for a higher end percale or sateen. I was originally looking at the Wirecutter review, and they recommend Riley for Pecale, and Cuddledown for sateen. The Riley is a little bigger than the Cuddledown, but still on the short side. Boll & Branch have fairly large sheets, but I just can't find enough about them. I tried Brooklinen, and aside from being too small, was really unhappy with the quality. I know I can't trust their own on-site reviews, but I was surprised they were so highly recommend on other review sites.

I have never considered tucking in the sides of the top sheet, well other than when my children were toddlers.

I think you are looking at the dimensions wrong. They are usually width x length. CD above has them listed this way as well. This gives you plenty of width to accommodate two people.

@Cheryl Hewitt, I just honestly never considered NOT tucking it. It's driving me crazy not being able to, but maybe I just need to adjust my way of thinking :) Of course once I get a new oversized duvet cover that properly hides the sheets, maybe it won't bother me as much. We returned the first mattress which was only 12" tall and the king duvet i bought was a perfect fit. With the new deeper mattress, the king duvet isn't wide to reach the bottom of the mattress.

@RNmomof2 zone 5, I wish I was just reading it wrong, but it's listed as 108" x 115". I had even emailed the company to confirm that was WxL, since as far as I'm concerned, extra width is more important than extra length (with the width, you have two drops to cover...with the length, you only have one drop. and with a king, the length of the mattress is only a few inches bigger than the width, so if anything I'd think you'd want more width).

I wonder if the company has it wrong. That does sound a little crazy.

atlpdl, you are correct, most King sheets out there are not wide enough to tuck in on the sides. The problem isn't with you or your sleeping style! We have looked high and low for wider sheets and they don't exist.

I have even thought about buying 2 twin XL flat sheets and sewing them together!

We have this problem as well and just use our sheets sideways. It seems that there is no other way except for somehow getting them custom-made.

Check Charles P Rogers their sheets are King Dimensions:
    Flat 116" x 110"
    Fitted 78" x 80" x 15" (18" extra deep)
    King Pillowcase 21" x 42"

That gives you 20” on each side. Only sheets I’ve found that cover my mattress and box spring.

The Fieldcrest line at Target has king sheets that measure 114 x 104 for the king top sheet. My DD had ordered some and I recently ordered a set to fit our thicker mattress and topper. The quality appears good (I have only washed once), they have two casings with elastic on the fitted sheet, and the fitted sheet is labelled "top" and "bottom". They have a few thread counts to select from and lots of colors.

I have some extra wide king flats that I purchased at a thrift store after a hotel replaced all their linens and donated the old ones. They are great. Hotels use flats for top and bottom sheets so need wide ones.

If you go on a site that caters to the hotel trade you will find many to choose from at various price points. Of course, you'll have to purchase a dozen (so it may be the last time you ever have to buy sheets)!

    Choices include 114 x 115 or 114x 120 or 118 x 120 or 121 x 120 in cotton blends.
