Repiping an entire house

We need to repipe all the hot water lines in our home, and I wanted to see if anyone has experience with this. I'm particularly concerned with having the walls, drywall, siding and other aspects of our home put back as they were. If you've gone through this, I'd love your advice.

Drywall is easy to patch if it doesn't have a texture.

Walls? Other than drywall? What are they made of?

Siding? Why are you removing siding?

What other aspects are being damaged?

Are you just replacing the hot water lines? Normally if you need to repipe that extensively you'd be doing all of the pipes. Better to do it all at once instead of waiting a couple years and then doing the rest.

We live in a town where the water company selected a purification process that eats away at copper pipes. So every home in town built before that occurred is repiped now or will be doing so to avoid all the leaks. We did it a couple of years ago, and it worked out fine. Holes in our plaster walls were patched and it all looks great. No holes were cut on the exterior of the house.

We repiped a couple of years ago and did all the pipes. The company we used took care of everything. They came in and finished in 3 days including all drywall repairs and inspection. It was excellent work. You can’t tell anything was done. All the spouts, water cutoffs were replaced with new.

The ease or difficulty of the job -- and the amount of repairs needed -- will vary depending on whether or not your house is two story, and/or has a basement, and/or an attic, and/or is on a slab.

thanks for all this helpful feedback! our house is on the larger side and two stories. we can reach some pipes only by removing large glued mirrors and two of the shower valves can only be reached by breaking through tile or going from the outside. did any of you have to take out tile? would love to know how it went and whether you were able to take out only 1 or two tiles. I really don't want to open up the outside of my house to get access to these spots....

We had the tile cut in 3 bathrooms.

Replaced with smitty plates. You can look at those on amazon. No way I'd have brick taken down outside for plumbing. No need to tear up outside of house. I don't remember how many tiles were cut but it wasn't many. Maybe three, maybe 4 tiles. That was 20 years ago and everything still looks great.
