IMO the cabinets are different so keep the counter the same as the rest not both

Is it an island or PENINSULA? They are not the same thing. You are showing an island picture, and asking about the other.

I'd keep it the same. You already have contrast with your shelves and pendants. IMO, those would be diminished by adding a dark counter.

What an adorable kitchen. I would keep the counters the same, that is what unites the peninsula with the rest and you have plenty going on with the wall tile.

Love the way it looks now. Keep the white counters.

Would it make a difference to anyone if we painted peninsula cabinet white to match others?

This is one of my favorites from a while back and your kitchen reminded me of it right away. This would not have the same result without the 2 cabinet colors...so my vote is not to paint the cabinet. Get new accessories if you need a change :)

I have gray solid-surface countertops in my new townhome and do not love them. They always look dirty. A glass of tepid water leaves a wring on them.

Considering the size of your perimeter and being generally white I guess this is the opposing view but I'd pick out a soapstone or something contrasting. You have a really great space.

Keep the same countertop, but if it were MY problem, I would lighten the peninsula cabinets to a light medium gray and let the black accents here (the stools) and there (the pendants and shelves) really stand out.

Use an accent color on the Island, That is the new style.

I agree with sandeeteedee's comment...I'd make the peninsula cabinets a lighter gray, like the gray stripe in the rug in front of the sink. Keep countertops the same.

I would suggest matching the other existing countertops. Also, would suggest painting the peninsula white to match the other cabinetry. The grey cabinetry doesn't seem to go very well with the flooring although it's hard to tell from a photograph alone. Good luck!

I would leave the peninsula gray. There is not much color in your kitchen especially if your keeping the white counter on it. White cabinets would wash away IMO. I have white perimeter cabinets with a dark granite and a blue gray island with a white and blueish Cambria counter. I love the contrast. But that’s me. Although I do get tons of compliments on my kitchen.

Also, think of how the lighting will change with a large gray countertop. I could never have white countertops in my kitchen because it's too bright and I'd have to wear sunglasses all day. (And also because my hubby is a menace with coffee and raspberry stains!!)
