Second option is better, but I would put the dining table next to the kitchen and the living area near the front door and stairs. Remove the wall by the front door so the entry is part of the living area. Reconfigure the bathroom and move the door so it opens from the den rather than the kitchen.

We like the idea of 2 seating areas - we ideally want to create a space that is one big living/dining/kitchen and then a separate cosy snug/living room.

The back of the house (where the kitchen and back bit of the lounge are, are the sunniest areas, so we want to make sure we have lots of seating areas there!

The space is for 2 adults 1 child and 2 dogs.

If you have any other layout suggestions that would be very much appreciate.

I like the plan with the snug best as well. Mostly because I love snugs, but also that plan is more flexible. The snug could be an office, guest space, etc if needed in the future.
