Need help in bedroom

Hi everyone after a couple of trips to find a nice bedspread I changed it again to this black and white one I bought from walmart. I changed most of the layout and left some things still a little but of thinking. The blinds are fine, just need a valance on both windows. The bedroom furniture is something I cannot chance but I will be touching it up, the closet will be painted white and the bookcase that I am using for storage, I will make a small curtain to hid the clothes. But is there anything else I can do to spruce it up without spending an arm and a leg. Very low on income right now. Thank-you.

The bed looks fine with quilt. Did you get matching shams? Prop them against headboard.

Remove painting over bed. It adds nothing & takes away from a very nice headboard.

The lamps on side tables are too small, and would not provide much light for reading I don't think? They are out of scale to headboard. You can look for black ceramic lamps or a wall light to hang over the headboard for a reading light.

I am not a big fan of valances - they are dated. I would remove the curtain rod & go bare with blinds, or add plain white sheers to the floor which will soften the look & add some height, if you move the rod up higher (a few inches only)

I agree with Sharon. Don't do valances. White sheers will be lovely, but you'll need a longer rod (can this one be extended?) that is higher up on the wall. I also agree on removing the painting. It doesn't fit the style of your bed and duvet cover. I would do larger white lamps though, not black.

I do not like the quilt right now that is why I am doing the black and white one is it okay with the beige walls?
Actually the quilt is not a quilt it is a bed cover for the bed so that is why I have the bedspread in the black and white would that work?

Are you near an Ikea? They have great stuff for good prices.

I wish I was but I can go to USA and I was also thinking of getting the cpatines bed in the black.
Okay I tried something last night let me know if its okay or should I do something else
  • 13 years ago
No, sorry, don't like it. Looks very heavy and overpowering. Do you like it?
Are those long curtain panels? Could you not use the white ones for your window next to the bed. Do you have one window in the room or more?
I have two windows what do you suggest to go behind the headbord it looks too plain without anything there
  • 13 years ago
Okay so I tried LOL but I have some new pictures now behind the headbord is a candle holder set will be getting eaither white or maybe black ones the curtains are pure white I still need to do some tweeking but this looks better then before

I think the black accents with that bedding is a good idea. Did you take back the black curtains, as they would beok on that window.

Can the dresser in that first picture be centered under the window? WalMart has nice lamps for a good price if you were to change the ones by your bed. You only need ONE lamp. I think you could get rid of the smaller end table near the bed, too.

Looking so much better already. I would sew a black satin trim on the curtains if you can - it doesn't take much sewing skill!

Paint is the least expensive way to change a room. I would paint the walls soft light teal. Paint the furniture white. Any pieces that are black do not have to be painted. White drapes. Light teal pillows with white pillows. Some teal, white and black accessories.

This is somewhat of an idea

AbbyJean: I can put the dresser under the window but it will block the vent the black curtains are about the same height as the window blind I did not return them still have them should I try those?
Since you have them still, it would be fun to see how they look.

Okay AbbyJean here is the picture and I did try to put the dresser under the window but it blocks to access the closet. sorry about the mess also would it help if I painted one wall white were the candles are behind the headboard?

I prefer all the walls painted the same color in this room. AND I like the black curtains, knowing how pretty your bed looks. OK......will you try one more thing......that tall black piece by your door? Can you move that where the dresser is so it would be nice and tall on that wall and put the dresser right inside the door instead and that would fill that area nicely.

Oh gosh, I loved the white curtains (if they are to the floor) Don't like the black ones at all. Much too short. Sorry for confusing you. But the white ones look so nice and soft and flowy.
I'm not so keen on the candlesticks above the bed. A print or painting, black&white perhaps?, would be much nicer. The other painting just got washed away on your wall, certainly with the new bedding.

Some creative ideas for you (follow the link under the picture):

That is such a hard size of a window to find a curtain to work as sometimes I feel the longer ones just emphasize the wall space from the floor to the window. I like the longer white ones if we can find something for under that window.

I can try with the white curtains but having a hard time finding them in the right size if I can find them then I will use them but for right now sorry but I like them here are a couple of new photos AbbyJean thank you everyone for your suggestions.

Also I have this picture that has not been hung up would this one be an option for over the headboard.

I would love to see that piece with your dresser!

THANK YOU for moving that furniture! That is work! OK....now if that black piece can be centered on the wall....center it from the curtain to the corner so it is not all the way touching that side wall. I just saw there is an outlet there, so go all the way to the edge of it and that will at least move it away from the corner.

LOVE the dresser in its new place, too, and the items you have on the top. That is why I think your lil piece above will really work right there. Hang it right behind where that fun iron piece is and then move that down so it hits the edge of the picture. I LOVE THIS!

Agree with abbyjean that the dresser looks good in its new place (great suggestion abbyjean) and that the Live Laugh Love piece will look good over that.

As for what to put above your bed, why not put three 18 x 18 (or larger) black frames with the large white mat. The cut out in the mat should be small (4x4). Insert any picture you love in a black and white tone. I have my grandchildren in mine, but it could be anything you want. Now if you decide later to change the bedspread to something else, the black and white still works because it is a neutral. Remember, a little bit of black grounds the room. You can find these frames anywhere (Target, Pottery Barn, etc.).

with the short size of the window you could put long sheers of some sort hiding the wall underneath and add side panels- floor length for both and a substantial curtain rod thats thick with rings and you can move it to make sure your curtains hit exactyl just above the floor to give it a more custom look.....
