Keep the floor lamp. Remove end table to right of sofa and put floor lamp there. That will help with arrangement. Remove that old coffee table. It is throwing everything off. Might be useful as night stand beside a kids bed?

Here is a mock up and idea board. I would stick with black, whites and grays to keep things cohesive. Some silver accessories would be finishing touches. Then ultimately long possibly white TV console in modern styling.

thank you Flo! that really helps me see it! I can do all of that! I had a feeling the lamps were too small and I can definitely move to my bedroom or tall buffet I plan to work on next. The couch is espresso leather. For pillows what colors? I had white in my other room and with kids they just dont last. Maybe I can find washable ones. I am terrible with picking printed pillows so always find solid since at a loss with print. Thank you for all the advice!!

Espresso leather is great and better than black but yours is so dark, you could use blacks too. I will see what pillows I can find. Have to leave house now, but I'll check around later today for you. But you can look on Houzz, or google, pillows, cream, browns, blues and see what comes up!

The secret to mixing prints is to keep them different scales. So, a small tight print can work with a larger more dramatic print. Keep at least one color in both pillows. Make sure the rug has a large or very subtle pattern too.

The Adobe rug Seajay posted is one of my favorites and it would look great. The blues work better with the espresso brown too. Thanks Seajay! Busy day today, so appreciate you jumping in to help!

If you don’t mind, I would like to suggest something different. Keep the chairs and move them up to the ottoman and sofa. I like the bright Jacobean fabric and the black legs and green for your accent color. The wall color is good, but consider a darker canvas against it.

None of these pieces will break your budget.

Thanks JudyG. I dont think those chairs are horrible I just think I have out grown them. I had a lot of brown and reds in this room for many years so dont think I can incorporate in updated feel. I like the idea of darker picture.

So I looked at the Adobe rug, pics in rooms. I love this rug but worried will be too dark. Although there is a big sliding glass door this room tends to look dark. The cherry floors add to this and no ceiling lights. This is why I kept trying to go with light rug and art, to brighten up. What do you guys think? Would adobe rug be too dark? Here are some pics I found online. Also a lighter rug I found that comes in blue or grey. What do you think of that one?

Ckinchen. I captured this picture with light walls like yours. You have a light coffee table and might get a lighter entertaining center for the tv. So I don’t think it looks too dark. I like the blue gray rug but I like the dark brown in the Adobe better. ;-). No worries if you want to keep looking. Just get a rug big enough to not look like a postage stamp ... tape out an 8 x 10 with 8-10” going under the front legs of your sofa

Thanks Seajay! It does look better with lighter walls. I will definitely get an 8x10 rug as I think that makes complete sense and will pull the seating together. The ottoman is lighter too so maybe that will tie together too with the Adobe rug. Thank you so much! lots of great advice here!!

Hi! So although I like the Adobe rug I dont love it enough. What are your thoughts on these 2 rugs? Has a farmhouse feel which I like. What pillows should I get?

Hey. Just saw your post. I like both of the rugs very much. Good choices and it’s your turn to flip a coin. Haha Since you mentioned you have children, I think i might lean towards the first one because the bold texture of the second rug might not hold up to a lot of wear or spills. Decide on rug first, pillows are easy.

Thanks Seajay! I love the second one but worried too that with kids and especially my dogs nail could pull the lifted parts out. I will order the first one then! So what pillows would you add to go with it? Thats always my challenge.

That is a very busy print in the rug you like and I wanted to caution you that it will direct many of your decisions going forward. So just give that some consideration. I see it’s a great price point but that should not be the overriding reason to buy it. Okay on to pillows. I don’t remember if you said but are you planning to keep the other two side chairs in the living room? If so your pillows will need to have a large scale print or stripe. I would steer clear of small busy prints. I also think I was try to bring in a brighter accent color. Doesn’t need to be burnt orange or red. A blue might work to. So I did a mock-up with just some ideas for proportion. I’ll do more later when I have more time. I would like to hear your thoughts on accent colors.

So I just really like the print. It looks farmhouse modern and not dated. I have never been a fan of geometrical prints but I think I like this one because it is not the dated floral prints, has character but not too much. That being said the price is really nice too but wish it were of better quality. The rugs that at $900 plus are definitely thicker and nicer. But having kids and a dog I learned the hard way it isnt worth it for my household at least. I am a black, white, grey decor person. Those are my comfort colors. My house has pops of blue because I like the contrast. My other living room has grey sectional with turquoise and turquoise accents throughout. This room has teal curtains I love as well as white sheers. I am getting rid of those chairs you saw and will buy a chair like what Flo put in her picture. Light colored accent chair. I did also see they have this same rug in a dark grey that could blend easier with pillows. It might not be as bold but makes a statement.
I really dont like orange or red, but anything in blue family I love. I really appreciate your help. Hopedlfully this gives you a better idea of me:-).

Thanks, it does ;). I’d like to suggest this rug perhaps since it’s in the same family of prints but contains a bit of what looks like teal blue. Your drapes are teal blue and you’ll be planning to get a neutral chair. I think in any case, I like your suggestion to get the gray version of the first rug from Wayfair if you go that route. And with your dark brown sofa the teal is beautiful. So i would look for teal, gray, cream pillows in a combination of print and solid. Since I’m not going to be able to get you out of your comfort zone, it’s pretty easy.

Hi all! So I got rid of those chairs, got a new bigger rug, and moved the painting down. Now I need help on a chair and pillows. I also have not decided on bigger lamps. So far I love all the suggestions and how it's coming along. Let me know what you think works. Thanks!

Looking pretty good. I think the rug would look better turned so pattern us running along sofa left to right. The art could be 2” lower since it is tall. The lamps need to be beefier. The colors are looking cohesive and pretty.

Thanks Flo! I moved the painting 2 times and had to patch up wall so gave up with 2nd time but will move again. I wasnt putting holes down enough. I realized after that the reason to hang low is so the painting is a continuation of the couch, I didn't realize that was why it should be so close to couch.
So for couch it looks like I have the same as the picture you posted. The only difference is this rug has the blue side pattern bigger on one side than the other ( I found that odd). So are you saying put flip the rug around so that bigger blue pattern is on the end on the corner where we walk past? Here is a pic with same angle.
Also please help with pillows, that's my biggest struggle!

So what are your thoughts of this chair? I bought it from someone I know for a really good price but now that it's in my room I am not sure. I can sell it and get another one. I think maybe something more white would be better although I worry with kids on it if would stay white. This chair is more beige that I thought would go with the sofa but not sure now. What do you guys rhink?

If you're concerned about getting a white chair, A grey one would work better that the beige you have and will also go very well with the color scheme you have there. Your pillows are looking good too. Maybe you can consider swapping some of the plain ones for subtle patterned ones in similar colors if you want something different.

Styldod you think grey would work? The sofa is espresso so I thought grey would clash. Yes, I need to find a printed pillow that could go with either the silver or blue pillows. Thanks for help!!

My apologies. I see it now that you pointed it out. I thought it was a black couch since it looks darker in some pictures. You would have to look for something like a greige (look at the tones in the painting for inspiration) or even an icy blue one like this (not necessarily this style)

Also, you could consider this color or grey for pillows instead of the light blue ones you have now.
