annoyed with torlys floor

We are installing torlys cable bay vinyl floor right now. We ended up choosing the colour from a catalogue and only saw a small sample in the store because they were getting their display ready. Lesson learned. I wanted a light floor with more creamy/peachy undertones. This looks super grey. Ugh. The catalogue totally displayed it wrong. The lightest one in the catalogue is cable bay. The floor under is what it looks like in real life. Tell me I’m crazy but this looks like a different floor.

How did the small sample compare to your choice?

Ok...so let's fix the 'look'. This is super simple: lighting and paint. Yes. It is that simple. Find light bulbs that cast a bit of a pinkish tone. That would be a soft white that is not blue. To achieve a peach tone...you need some yellow in there.

Yep. Paint the walls in tones you wanted to see on the floor. I don't mean PINK/peach. That's so 80's! What I mean is finding a wall colour that READS a bit more pinky-peach. A white on the walls that is more ivory (pink) than it is cream (yellow) or crisp (blue).

When you throw down warm/pink lighting with ivory/pink based paint (nothing overt...nice and subtle) you will have a floor that 'turns' pink. Tah Dah! A grayish floor that reads more peach/pink than gray.

Trust me...this is cheaper than throwing away the floor and starting over.

The first is the floor from their website in our place (Interactive pic). The second is our actual floor. These are not the same.

What you have is MUCH better than the virtual. A pink floor isn’t going to go with very much and would have ended up in the dumpster in 2 years time. That is a more natural and realistic wood look, and will go with a lot a lot more changing styles than pale pink and not very real looking. Serendipity.

It’s not pink really. It’s more light brown with yellow tones. This one is grey with some brown.

I'm afraid to say that photos on a monitor, especially professional pics like the one's you have shown as an interactive web page, are HEAVILY lit. As in multiple flood lights using professional photographers.

I can see in the first photo above, the floors are hazy and quite washed out. That has to do with the photographer's lighting + the web designer's tuning of the white contrast BEFORE the photos were loaded to the website. These are two things that the customer CANNOT control.

I'm very sorry this has happened but these are the same floors. They are not the wrong colour erroneously named/shipped. They are the floors you ordered....sight-unseen from a small sample that didn't 'read' very well in a small sample.

As for your lighting, you absolutely can change the colour of the BULB. LED is quite severe when it comes to lighting. You can soften the appearance of your home by changing the intense lighting with softer coloured bulbs.

    And don't forget to paint.

Hi Claire, my wife and I are looking at the Cable Bay but are undecided. Do you have any pictures of your flooring so we can see how it turned out. It definitely looks different then the images online. They look great though!

We are a year in and I do like the floors now. They are more grey than I wanted but they look nice in our space.

I wish all the flooring installers would include more photos of completed floors as lighting really affects the look . Choosing flooring is very difficult when you can't get a good idea of what the finished floor looks like. I do like your floor .

Just found this in a search. Wish I saw it when selecting our floors. I think they look perfect. We selected high point, I hope they are work for us but had I seen this I might have selected cable bay.
