just go to your paint store and get some paint chips. narrow it down to a few and let her pick. (but I'd stick to something in the lavender shades as opposed to Barney purple. That's going to be a pain to paint over in a few years!) Lavender is a nice shade and can stay around for awhile.

Or, try the new BM color of the year, First Light.

Flo, my mother had an entire room in lavender when I was a kid. I mean every single thing in that room was lavender. I actually like purple, so I don't mind! But I don't like the garish purple and pink, ala Disney. that gets old quickly.

Accessories are your friend here!! go soft on the walls and bring in comforters, pillows, chairs, in the bright colors. they're easier to switch out when she tires of them

Since a 3 year old will be growing rapidly, I would keep wall colors quiet and jack up colors with bedding and other fun things. In a year or so she will probably like other colors. Then easy changes can be made.

Don’t forget the less attractive but more fun options if having her help you decorate. For example, you could get some poster board paper and a whole bunch of colorful stickers and glitter. Then have a fun art time in the backyard and stick the art at 3 year old height for her to admire and enjoy.

Chalk walls get messy. I understand the graphic appeal but in reality, it's not that pretty. You're renovating a whole house so there are an overwhelming amount of decisions to take. (Just saw your bathroom post.) My advice to you is keep it simple for the 3-yr old's bedroom. If you're in a rush to paint the walls first, find a light neutral colour and then let her add the colour with her own art. Beth mentioned BM's First Light and it is a nice soft barely there pink that can almost read neutral. Personally, I'd go with white walls because it looks fabulous with most pinks and purples. What colour is the furniture? If you paint your walls pink or purple first, you might have difficulty finding bedding that goes with the particular shade. When I did my daughter's nursery, I chose the wall colour first then couldn't find the "right" pink bedding. All the bedding in the stores was peachy pink. my pink walls were blue-based. Wall colour is chosen last to "coordinate" with room textiles.

Benjamin Moore's whites you might want to sample: Simply White (can read quite yellow depending on room's exposure), Cloud White (a nice soft white) and Chantilly Lace (bright white with no undertones). There's more than one way to create a beautiful room but now might not be the time to consider thousands of options.

Here's an article on toddler rooms with white/neutral walls. I love Beth's idea of a window seat and built-ins. If it's not in the budget, the first pic in this feature shows an affordable alternative.

Neutral walls with colorful add-ones that are removable sounds smart. There are tons of easy-to-remove wallpapers and one wall of it would make her (and you) happy. Her chances of changing her mind are pretty high, so keep that in mind for everything (which is why a chalk paint should be nixed). I’m sure it will be adorable and lovely.

I would do a very light shade of a color she likes (or a complementary color) because I feel that’s easier to work with when her tastes change. Accessories (bedding, storage bins) can be brighter. That might also keep the smaller room from becoming overwhelming. My daughter has a small bedroom too, with very light green walls, pink curtains, and white bedding with pink and purple owls all over it and brighter throw pillows.

There are now all kinds of peel and stick options. My girls are teens now, but still like this room they decorated when they were little. The dots are removable and they had a great time arranging them.

I don’t get replacing those gorgeous original floors! Are they ruined by the leak and have to be replaced?

Our princess granddaughter ( 5 at the time) wished for purple walls in “her” bedroom in our new home. We chose BM beach plum, simple white bedding and window treatments. She’s now 18 and still loves her room. Toys have retired as has the easel/blackboard and rocking horse. I also love the color which changes beautifully with days light. It has worked well as a calm guest room too! Oh, you’ll want to install a full length mirror. Ours is on the back of the door. Good for twirling and dress-up.

I would find some bedding first and build your colors around that.

If she likes unicorns, they are hot right now. Find the bedding and keep the walls kinda neutral. Know that in a few years, she will move onto something different, so don't spend a lot.

Something else to think about.......I would not make this "her" room, because if/when there is another grand baby, she will be very upset about having to share "her" room.

If you really want to paint the walls (or one wall) purple, instead of a neutral color, be sure the choose the bedspread first. Then choose a color that looks good with that purple but much much lighter. Remember that if the one inch square paint chip color looks good to you, it will be repeated 46,000 times in a 10X10 room. So it's easy to over-color the room.

Then do a Google image search for rooms painted that color. Looking at a few rooms will give you a much better idea of the color intensity rather than just looking at a chip. For example, BM's Whisper Violet looks almost white on a chip, but soft purple in a whole room.

The bed was purchased from a local store..it wasn't real leather so after about 7 years we got a different one (the material peeled off and it didn't look nice anymore). I got a different bed from Room and Board, upholstered still in white and it looks like new..the fabric seems to hold really nicely. If I find something similar to the original bed, I will let you know

We did BM Elephant Pink in my daughter’s room when she was 3, and had a purple shag remnant bound for the floor. White furniture, a girly chandelier, and colorful bedding/accessories made it a happy room for her.

White or very pale ballet pink walls. Then get some beater desks and night stands on craigslist and paint them brighter purple and pinks and get a coordinating bedspread set.
