Gap between raised patio and fence

I have a large gap between my raised concrete patio and wooden fence. The gap is about 6 inches but several feet deep. Everything (trash, leaves, etc) blows into the gap and creates a perfect spider breeding ground. Any advice on how/what to fill this gap with would be appreciated. I dont have much knowledge of my option and have considered possibly filling it with mulch or something, but am not sure if that is going to work any better.

    I would fill it with rock leaving 4 to 6 inches from the top then I would place some potted plants on top of the rock. Rock won't rott and if you buy larger rocks and not gravel it will allow water to flow through it. They larger the stones the better.
