We just put down porcelain look wood planks because of the past bad experiences with natural stone and hardwood with animals, kids etc ... They look just like wood! Best part no more chances of urine penetrating flooring and never getting out the smell. Ever! I know porcelain is hard and cold but I’ll just wear thick slippers..

Going the LVP route and this is a big contender. Felt it was the best look in our lighting.

Are you floating or glueing the LVP? I am at the same stage of selecting flooring and install method for a new construction. Our builder is recommending glue down, but Shaw rep is stating floating without a need for Transition strips or the base shoe. We are looking at the Shaw Messina HD Plus in Fontana Oak or the newer engineered hardwood Exquisite Line by Shaw. We have a large spance to include kitchen, dining and living room. 21' x 49' on concrete slab with radiant heating in floor. Installation suggestion appreciated!

Amy we will be floating but I think the glue some pieces maybe near the wall? Currently I’ve moved to these two products.

Looking to install Palmetto Road Impact LVP in our 3400 sq. ft new construction on a slab.

I looked at a Palmetto Road LVP yesterday. What’s the name of the one on the right in your picture?

The Fawn was 12mm wear layer so I was concerned about it. I will go back and see if they have the Sea Breeze.

Find what you like, take samples, and do your best to abuse the samples. Go from there. I can say I have a multi-pet household with two dogs, five cats, and a rotating door for foster kittens and dogs as well. Plus a teen. I don't see scratches on the Armstrong Armalock vinyl that the previous homeowner installed 10+ years ago. I do see them on the high-gloss pre-finished Bruce oak hardwood, although it's probably just in the top polyurethane layer.

Let's face it - the guy who came up with LVP is a genius - I mean they're labeling something as "luxury" that is really plastic. I'd always go with the best option I could afford and in your case that would be the engineered hardwood.

Design girl-we had engineered woods in our other house and it didn’t not do well with kids and pets! We had the shaw sequoia woodlake floors.

@Design Girl completely agree. If it was just "vinyl planks", it would not be nearly as popular. It does look good and it is used in many flips around here that are $300k+. Just be aware that the pattern does repeat and some scratch easily. So make sure to really test a sample piece.

I also don't get the tile that looks like wood. But that is personal preference. If I'm putting tile down, I want it to look like tile. But if you love it, I'm cool with it.

It will be interesting to see if the LVP is here to stay.

Wasn't Pergo the solution to all the flooring problems a few years ago. Everyone was installing Pergo here on GW/Houzz. Then Cork and Bamboo were the next replacement for wood floors and again they were the darling of GW/Houzz. Those 3 had their 15 minutes of fame and are now just another choice at the bottom of the list.

Chispa - You are so right. This LVP will be out in a few years and some other crappy product will take it's place. I have not had engineered wood floors ( I have regular hard wood),so I can't speak to the durability, but I do know others that have not had any problems with kids or pets. That being said, make sure to get a matte finish, and go with a recognized brand with a decent warranty.

I have had engineered hardwood floors & was not happy with them long-term. We are going to try LVP this time around. Good luck deciding!

@Jess Kay have you installed your floors yet? What did you end up going with and are you happy with them? We've gone from LVP to engineered and now looking at pre-finished solid wood.

We still haven’t installed floors. I’m not sure how much longer honestly. We’ve been trying to get them to purchase Provenza LVP for us and waiting word on their decision!

Electricians have to come finish the floor outlets before floors so not sure how much longer!

We have LVP in basement only. On main floor we have engineered throughout. Three kids and a dog and love it. The LVP pales in comparison and in our area is not suitable for a main floor.

The look of LVP has been improving rapidly, as has been the look of porcelains. Print patterns are becoming more sophisticated and finer. I've been recommending tile when clients have large dogs and/or children, but not all take that advice. I've also resisted LVP until recently.

Use of a product like this is usually driven into the market by price, as it makes its way through lower price point homes.

In 2016 I was surprised to see it installed in a $1.4 mil home, as it was easy for my eyes to see the pattern repeat, but it was affordable enough to use throughout. The builder & marketing folks were making their first spec venture outside the tract industry, so I hesitated. This year I saw it in a pair of $2.99 mil homes by a custom builder I respect, one of which flew off the market, the other via a western themed party we attended with straw strewn through the interior floors while the 100+ moved through wide open multi slide windows. There was no obvious pattern repeat in colors as it was dark, but there was a hard to see grain repeat. It really augmented the ability to use the home for indoor/outdoor entertaining.

For 2020, we have some high end projects planned with a variety of flooring. One with large quantities finished in place solid hardwoods, another with vinyl throughout in the 2-3 mil range, another weighing polished marbles vs porcelains vs LVP, another requesting stained concrete. Also refinishing my office so all materials are being considered.

Tremonto, we decided to go with Provenza LVP in Sweet Talker. It’s been a LONG process building and I’m hoping we have floors in the next 2-3 weeks.

Cyndy, thank you. It’s been such an order because the flooring store ordered the others without telling us so they wanted us to pay $1500 restocking fee. We finally have the floors on order (I hope) and will be installed soon!

@Thrish we only use a damp mop on them no cleaning products. No issues so far. Still love them.

We aren’t doing engineered. We went with LVP.

We finally have floors! We went with the Provenza LVP Moda collection: Sweet Talker. Could not be happier with how they turned out!

Very pretty! How did they price as compared to engineered hardwood?

Price isn’t terrible but there were engineered floors in our allowance for cheaper so we did pay over for these. They are roughly around $4.50/sq ft when you call around plus install.
