I'm not sure what you are actually asking for? ladybugs and asian beetles that look a lot alike along with cucumber beetles that look like them but are yellow, and stink bugs that look like squash bugs are all different bugs.

Ladybugs tend to stay outdoors, so do cucumber beetles and squash bugs. Asian beetles and stink bugs tend to be the ones that like to come inside.

And bee houses are something else to all the other bugs mentioned.

Asian lady beetles come inside in fall to hibernate. In their natural environment they overwinter in caves and rocky crevices.....in lieu of those accommodations being available, they choose houses :-) They are completely inoffensive and will disappear on their own when the weather warms but if they bug you - sorry for the pun - then just vacuum them up and dispose of them.

gardengal is right. Vacuuming up Asian lady beetles is the best cleanup for them. But then where I get them is in a couple windows that I cap inside with plastic in the fall anyway. So whatever happens they don't get into the house other than what dies in the capped area by the time I take down the plastic in the spring. And the vacuum is best for that cleanup.

But oh if you get stinkbugs, only use a vacuum with a disposable bag if you choose to use a vacuum for that. I had the unfortune of two stink bug explosions around here- and my little hand canister vacuum hasn't smelled the same since, lol. Stinkbugs to tend to like hiding away and coming out when it's warm a lot like the Asian lady beetles do. So if you have traps already for them, good. Then if/when you see them when it warms up, put out traps for them. But no, they aren't likely to trap Asian lady beetles.

Never seen anything to attract Asian beetles... and since they are so beneficial in the garden, I don't wish to kill them en masse. They get into everything with a crevice in Fall; regardless of the measures I take (caulking, perimeter sprays, etc.) some always find a way indoors. To me, they are a major nuisance. They have a surprisingly powerful bite, and you don't want them flying around the dining room (and falling into your food) at dinner time.

Box elder bugs have the same habits, they swarm on the South side of the house shortly after the first frost, and are even more adept at finding a way in. At the moment, both they & the Asian beetles are competing for that privilege. If anything, the box elder bugs are even more annoying, because they will appear indoors at random intervals for most of the Winter. We had new, tight-sealing windows installed a couple years ago, which has really cut down on the numbers which make it inside.

I have a spade in my back shed, which has a pipe handle in place of the broken wooden handle. When I pulled it out one Spring, the pipe was completely packed with Asian beetles, all dead. There must be some chemical scent given off, to attract so many into such a confined space.

I think that they are a nuisance, too. Jeanwedding, my advice is to get busy caulking around the windows, window casings, add seals around all of the doors, etc. There is really no other way.

They are Asian ladybugs, probably.

Here in Southern Ohio we are positively overrun with Stinkbugs! e.g. Removed the cover from my gas grill last weekend and shook about fifty out on the deck. Opening the grill revealed at least that many also. Having dogs, quite a few stinkbugs manage to get in the house when we let the dogs in and out. I wait till they "group" and try to get on a piece of cardboard and carry outside. Tried the Vac method ONCE, never again!

Do the Stinkbug traps actually work? Anyone know what climatic conditions caused this population explosion?

Yeah I knew thy were Asian ladybugs. been messing with them since we moved here sev yrs ago.

well I guess I ll just get out my bug zappers, etc. im sick of the Ass hats. getting bit,getting in my glass of water, food, etc landing on my face. Hubby even marked clothepins in red tip and angled the edges to pick them like using tweezers. I hate huring them but enough is enough. Never had such a problem back in the city before moving to this semi rural area
