Gray is trending out. For something as long lasting as a kitchen, stick with white unless your heart is completely set on gray.

Looks pretty, but white is fine too. Do you need the island to use the kitchen? $2000 is nothing to sneeze at, could be used as a contingency fund. Or put into a savings account...... so many things come up with home ownership. Lived through renovations they either make you tougher or crazier lol.

i just noticed the island has the sink, so could be a big nuisance to change and super inconvenient to have something half a***d.

The cool blue in the blue gray will emphasize any warm -orange tones in a wood floor,

Hey Lisa - is that a partial soffit for your vent hood duct work?

That bulkhead has our pipes from our bathroom in it. We’re installing the vent hood immediately below it with uppers on either side, and the right upper will encase the bulkhead (and the rest of the bulkhead will stick out from the right of it). Hope that makes sense!

We did everything KitchenAid! KDTE234GPS. We had a Bosch and it didn’t dry well...so far so good w the KitchenAid!

Oh my gosh, MY KA was installed in the 1980s. It's stainless inside and out, and I love it. I'm not getting rid of it till it dies. When it does, I'll probably get another KA.

My sister has a top of the line 5 yo Bosch and it is awful - worked well for two years and averages three service calls a year since then. It has overflowed onto the kitchen floor at least twice that I'm aware of. I have to find her a replacement option that can use the same panel...

I know this isn't a reveal thread, and you're busy with other concerns, but when you get a chance, I'd love to hear more about your space. How is your IKEA experience? Everything looks like it's going to be lovely - have you thought about your backsplash?

When I finally finish, I’ll post a reveal and a link on this thread! IKEA has been good, not perfect but I don’t think anyone would be, and we definitely saved money! Backsplash, haven’t really given much thought to yet. Probably a white or light grey subway with some texture!

You have waited for a while already, what's another 6 weeks especially since it's only the island and the rest of the kitchen is usable? I would not settle...I have a feeling that you might regret it in the long run...unless you have changed your mind and see the white option as more desirable now?

Regarding your question about "just wanting it done"...

No. Why not? Because every time I was tempted, I thought about the many years to come and having to live with that decision. It immediately brought me back to realizing that a few more weeks of inconvenience was minor in the grand scheme of things. Having to live with whatever I did not for many, many years to come was much worse!

A few extra weeks now vs many, many years? No-brainer!

Result? I still LOVE my kitchen 11 YEARS later!

Your IKEA white fronts shouldn't be painted as they are foil. Can I ask which gray you were going to go with if you choose gray as IKEA's gray (Bodbyn) does not have the same door style as the Akstad? I had Semihandmade price my doors for our entire kitchen and while more, they were $2000 more for the ENTIRE kitchen.

I would leave it white for now.

Gray really is trending out, FWIW. The blue-gray is nice but doesn’t work as well in the space. I agree on the white. Enjoy!

Another vote for all white! There will be accessories and other items to give your kitchen all the color it needs!

I'd forgo the blue/gray altogether and do the black or the navy.

I think it would look better w/your floors (especially the black choice) and your countertop. this picture has floors closest to yours

It will give you more freedom to choose colors for backsplash, counter stools, etc. I am just a few steps ahead of you with a similar Ikea kitchen. I strongly considered a contrasting island, but kept it all white (though I have two different countertop materials). No regrets on that decision! Now cabinet hardware OTH...

Gray cabinets, will NOT give your kitchen "...a more custom, high end look" any more than white ones will. They are just part of a whole. You may think that they will, but that doesn't mean they actually do.

If my goal was a more "high end" look, I'd stick with the white island and add the 2K to the backsplash and lighting budget.

I def. vote against gray! I'd keep the white, and play with backsplashes and handles!

Beth - Do you know the source for the globe lights, from bottom, first and fifth pictures of your last post?

Your kitchen is beautiful. Love it. But your "feel" goes more towards colored cabinetry for the island. And you're needing a bunch of arguments to combat what you want. You can't argue with feel!

However, I do like the smokey black more than any potential grey. It's really striking. Very fresh.

If you went IKEA, you can change the look of your cabinets at any time by swapping out the doors! Right now, there's a new green, or a rift sawn oak look, or a black / brown, etc. Leave the white and wait - then - swap out using IKEA if you change your mind - so flexible!

White is ALWAYS in style and classic. I also think grey is trending out so finish your kitchen. As just_janni says, you can swap it down the road. Add color with accessories and a rug at the sink. It’s looking great so far! (I understand your remodeling fatigue.)

white white white! Just finished our tiny galley kitchen with IKEA bodbyn cabinets and white subway tile. I was worried the slightly off white cabinets and bright white backsplash wouldn't look right but very happy with it! The cabinet and counter lighting really helps. Highly recommend IKEA lighting.

Lisa Foreman what does your heart say? Not sure if you have the time, but I recently was debating a similar issue and someone here suggested I got back and review my inspo pics. I tried to turn off my brain and click through them and see which ones I *wanted* and *loved* not the ones that I *thought* worked for my house.

In my case, I had been debating a wood island with white perimeter cabinets and different counter tops with ORB handles. But when I clicked through my inspo pics, the ones that made my heart swoon where all white with pops of color, often a cobalt blue and white fabric accent (like roman blinds or upholstered barstools). And none of my swoon kitchens had ORB handles, lol. FWIW, I'm now choosing to do all-white cabinets, white countertops all around (probably Pental Quartz misterio) and then a blue and white statement black splash. I figure if I get sick of the backsplash in 10 years, I could change it out for not too much money. (cheaper than repainting a roomful of cabinets) And it gives me something I LOVE.

BTW, Yes, it's decision fatigue. Maybe you can take a day off from thinking about the house and come back rested with a fresh perspective? Your kitchen looks fab already. Either choice will work. It's more about what YOU prefer and love. Best of luck!

Can you mix door styles and finishes? I'm redoing my small kitchen and I'm thinking of using White Ringhult (flat panel and glossy) for my wall and base cabinets and Black Lerhyttan (shaker style and matte) for my breakfast bar. Is this just crazy or could this work?

Unless you do a dark gray color it may look dirty next to the white outer cabinets.... so it depends... keeping it white yu can more easily change window treatments, throw rug, etc.. accessories... with grey yu have to match with it/complement it forever... who knows how long grey will be around

Did you finish the kitchen? I'm planning on an Axstad kitchen and I'd love to see the finished result! Also, if you're still considering a different color island, I read on gardenweb today that IKEA may be releasing a blue Axstad door in the UK later this year; if it makes its way to the US you could swap out doors later if you so chose.

@Lisa Foreman Can I see your finished kitchen? I'm doing IKEA white, and I'm down to backsplash and island paint color (thinking greige paint on the back and sides, but keeping the drawers white).

It’s hard with doing different colors because they’re usually colors that trend. Depends on what you want to pay to change the look moving ahead. I think I’m with others in staying all white and adding colors in rugs, accessories, and hardware. But it really is based on what your heart is telling you. I’m not sure how long you plan on staying in your home either- sometimes thinking of what will hold resale value may be prudent if you plan to sell anytime within the next 5 or so years.
