I know our climates are literal polar opposites, but I've grown some of these in the past and they sure do make for colorful and interesting "fun" plants! :)

I have never grown that it's cool. If by chance you have extra seeds let me know.

It's beautiful, and if you don't poison it with systemic insecticides, the seeds are edible.

I've grown the purple majesty millet. It was a big hit with birds. The dark purple leaves look pretty with sunflowers of any color.

Sometimes I get millet growing in the compost where I dump our parrots' cage litter.

I love growing amaranth, and I like the seed for eating better than millet. It makes a great cereal. Yes, some of the amaranths are quite beautiful and are grown as ornamentals, like the bleeding heart and Joseph's Coat. The leaves and seeds are still edible as long as you don't use systemic insecticides on them.

When I was little, my grandmother and I would go out to what used to be corn fields down the road and pick the Palmer's Amaranth and pigweed that had taken it over. The plants grew rapidly, and could get very tall. In the fall, she went back and picked the seed pods and used it for hot cereal in the winter.

Raw amaranth grain is not digestible by humans, but when it's cooked, it is chock full of nutrients.
