No dumb questions. Your question will help others. When I harvest garlic in July I will plant smaller cloves even that early. They sprout, they freeze, they rebound in spring.

Garlic is easy to grow. It lends to questions because of when it is planted. When everything else is dying or to sleep, garlic grows. Hint - garlic will developed scapes in the summer. Cut off the scapes to direct the energy back into the bulb. You can eat the scapes. .

I would be suspicious of why garlic ordered from a quality supplier would be sprouting already. It was only harvested a few months ago. Also, no one asked whether you ordered hardneck or softneck garlic.

I assume he ordered hardneck and read the description on the garlic he ordered as to where it grows. I would of worried if he said he got it from a grocery store.

By the way Joshua you can get bulbs to plant locally. Next year if you want more to grow just go to your local parking lot farmers market after harvest time.
