I have a tendency to clean my dishwasher filter more than the machine tells me to. From time to time, I will see some of the orange/oil residue left over on the screen from things like tomato sauce. The thought of this in the rinse water is probably the reason I started to clean that filter more often!

how about the water left in the bottom of the dishwasher. Is it murky sometimes or cloudy?

No water left on the bottom of the dishwasher after cycle. If I take the filter out and look at whatever leftover water is underneath in that compartment, it's clear.

Have you ran any dishwasher cleaner through it? That might help and would certainly be worth a try.

Do you notice smells? How often do you run your dishwasher on average? Other than the seemingly dirty water in your drain, do you notice any dirt anywhere else?

We have a much older model, but ours has always been like that. The dishes seem clean so I don't worry about it unless there's more than an inch of water in the filter. (That's happened a couple of times, and usually means something is actually clogged in the filter--you can take it apart to clean it out.) We clean the whole filter once a month or so.

Rinse aid will turn the water somewhat milky - dpending on the dosage. I have also found that too little detergent or too gentle a cycle will leave grease in the rinse water that also turns the residual water milky.

I'd call Miele's help line and ask them to guide you through the process of increasing the water amount and/or add an extra rinse, which is done through a hidden programming mode.

1 - Pause/open the dishwasher during the last rinse for a look-see.

2 - Check the residual water (which is from the last rinse) in the sump/filter area after a cycle is complete.
