I wouldnt add any paneling. Your house is already very nice and looks great.

Do you maybe mean wainscoting?

I think wainscoting is usually about 4’ high with traditional 9’ ceilings; I‘m considering 5’, so I think that qualifies as paneling:).

No that is still waincotting and IMO too tall panelling is the whole wall

Patricia, thanks for the comment. Is there a rule about painted wainscot needing to match trim? I‘m hoping for suggestions about how to address that issue In a room where there is both a cased opening to another room and a swinging door.

Really nice room. Doesn't actually need wainscoting. Unless you are wanting the wainscoting to be a natural wood finish, paint it the solid white of the trim.

The wainscoting/paneling, etc needs to be white like your trim. You could paint it a darker color as in some of the photos, but then you'd have to paint your walls lighter and make the trim dark as well, (including the doors). If you want paneling, then it's easiest to make it white.

I think you have to either have white walls and gray paneling or keep the walls the same color but then have the paneling match the trim. Three different colors in one room would otherwise be a bit busy in what looks to be a classic/traditional home.

it also looks like there are a lot of openings into the room where the paneling would go. If I were you, I would probably NOT add the paneling because it might make the room A) look smaller and B) might be hard to have panels of the same size given the different lengths of each wall

Okay, I’m convinced - paneling isn’t a good choice here. Pivoting to a different design. I’ll keep you posted!
