recommendations for how to paint cabinets

I'm looking to slowly remodel our kitchen. eventually new countertops and wood floors. I'd like to start by taking out our vintage wallpaper and paint the walls white. but that color should I chose for the kitchen cabinets? Maybe Navy Blue the bottom and white the top. or all white? any recommendations highly appreciated!

Don’t bother trying to cosmetically make over those old cabinets. The kitchen needs a new layout that isn’t dangerous. With new cabinets that won’t have all the issues that those do. Don’t dare put stone on any of that. Just declutter and keep saving.

Slowly being the operative word, this will be slow. You would need major prep and really doing this a bit at a time will end up being a long drawn out process. And if DIY and not doing it all at one it will be messy, as the cabinets will need to be clean, sanded, cleaned sanded primed and top coated. No using them in between as that will necessitate cleaning again.

hahaha. I love that comment! yes we got a toddler. I also think our cabinets are fine I just thought new paint would maybe freshen it up. however, the 'special' cherry wallpaper removed might already change a lot. we are not planning DIY painting.

If you're not planning DIY painting, then be prepared for a HUGE expense! There is tons of prep involved in painting old cabinets and you will have to pay for it. Frankly, these cabinets are not worth that expense. Try some serious de-cluttering in your kitchen. A $100,000 brand new kitchen will still look terrible if every surface (including the floor!) are covered with "stuff". Sorry to sound "harsh" but it's just the truth.

The cabinets look fine to me. I would leave them. I would definitely remove the wallpaper asap. Clean the walls good, use a good primer and paint them (no yellowish paint on walls, with your cabinets). I also have to agree, it definitely needs a bit of decluttering.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>the wallpaper definitely will go. these are pictures right during decluttering right now. As I'm 8 months pregnant that takes a while

Fo is on storage solutions for all the things on counters so they have somewhere to go. Also is there a door to the outside in the kitchen? Can you arrange some sort of shoe storage?

That burn hazard island says that you need to gut everything and start over. Not paint. You appear to need to add cabinets to the ceiling and pantry storage in order to house all of that. In the meantime, don’t allow any small children around while cooking. Get all of that combustible stuff off of the burners unless you want a big insurance claim and a hospital visit.
