Upper kitchen cabinet design

What design do you think would look best on my upper kitchen cabinets? Here is an example of a X design and then one line in the center dividing the glass or should I go with the traditional plus sign look? They are just a bit too plain with nothing-I think.

The glazing is really too small to be divided. If you want to do something different, maybe try switching out the glass for wire screen. What will you ultimately be displaying in them? Can you post a photo with the interior lights and the undercabinet lights on?

I think they look fine as they are, but if I had to choose between your two options--I like the line dividing the pane in half.

Theres already 57 too many things going on. You don’t need to make it even busier with divided glass. Simplify, and get rid of some of those too busy things. Like the island detailing and the too shiny paint for the coffers.

Where’s the trim kit for the fridge?

It’s a old picture before everything was done. Here it is trimmed out. The paint for the coffee is actually a satin not even a semi gloss so it must be a weird reflection in the pic. It’s not shiny in person.

I might like frosted glass in all. are you going to light these? Or just leave empty? I’d light them or frost them.

I’m planning on lighting them but I don’t really have anything that I want to display in them. i also thought about making some solid panels so they look just like cabinets if that makes sense. They have a glass insert that I can remove and replace with a white wood panel.

I would leave them without any patterns. I would say the glass panel front is designed to display something and the dividing lines would detract from it. You may eventually want to display some pieces in there. Either all white or art glass pieces in a focal color.

Stunning kitchen. You did a wonderful job. Enjoy! I'm going back now to the pics to study it properly.

And I did. Study it that is. This is a really gorgeous kitchen. Magazine worthy. It's bright, spacious with well thought out choices in everything.

I would add lighting and keep glass clear.

I wouldn't add any more fuss. With the ceiling, the extra cabinet trim, the glass cabinets over the plain, light fixtures with lines, it's already very busy. There is nothing "too plain" in your kitchen. At some point you need to stop adding details. It's lovely as it is!

    Would you leave them empty?

    Would you leave them empty?

“Empty” as in with nothing displayed in them? No. If you’re going to leave them with the glass, you need to add lighting and you need to display things—pretty things. But since you don’t have anything to display, I suggest you replace the glass with wood or mdf panels. Now if you replaced the plain glass with frosted glass, you wouldn’t have to have pretty pieces on display. You’d still need to light them, though. ;)

Since you don't have display items, some mirrored or metal panels could also work as an accent if you want to break things up a bit.

Your kitchen is so pretty. I would not add anything to the glass panes. But I tend to be minimalist. Good luck to you !

I just want to thank everyone for their compliments and kind suggestions. I’m not sure why some people feel the need to be ugly and pick apart other people’s homes. That is not the reason for this forum. So, I just want to thank all of you that were so kind.

I'd leave them. The hardware is gorgeous. An X in all of them will be too much I think and the line down the center make it look like a window/skyline. Beautiful kitchen.

Ugh, our unit is actually one that can be completely built into the cabinet so no warranty issues there. you can add front cabinet panels etc but we chose to leave the stainless. It wasn’t a $5 hack and if you can’t tell we didn’t skimp on anything in our kitchen so it’s not about the $$$. It might ruin the look for you but we are very pleased with the look and it is just what we were going for. It’s obvious our taste are very different. I would love to see your kitchen since mine is not up to your high standards.

mackdolan, that does not void the warranty and it certainly does not look like a $5 hack.

See page 5. Frigidaire does not mandate that the trim kit be used.

mackdolan- our cabinet designer worked with our appliance dealer who has been in business over 50 years and they said it was completely acceptable. The airflow is on the front bottom and it has ample space in the back.

We also have the recommended space on top and sides.

The trim kit is not spec'd to be used for ventilation. The spec sheet states that the trim kit is used for stabilization or to make the unit 75" or 79" high.

I have lighted glass uppers and have nothing on display.....they look perfectly fine to me. I didn’t even add hardware to them.

I have to agree that there is a lot already going on in the space, mostly from the lovely ceiling - so keep it simple. I personally would ditch the glass entirely, or go with frosted to minimize the contrast.

    Love the globe pendants!
