Are you planning to again use granite or are you open to using Corian or another material?

I have no idea why you think that white-on-white is the look that is in. I actually don’t see many all-white kitchens these days. Anyway, there are zillions of pics of white kitchens with contrasting counters all over the internet if you want to look.

What is more “in”--if anyone cares about those arbitrary labels—are painted cabinets in jewel colors like sapphire blue, jade or emerald green. Or wood cabinets in the expensive rift-sawn white oak, or bookmatched walnut.

Countertop is some sort of Macaubus quartzite. Distributor called it Mykonos, but pretty sure it's just White Macaubus. It's a light gray with veining that is golden brown, medium gray, dark blue / black, and creamy white. Cabinets are Dove with a very subtle gray glaze. Island and bank of cabinets behind where I'm standing while taking the picture is SW Naval.

How about close to white but not?! We did the following kitchen with a very light shade of blue in the cabinetry. Was featured on the cover of the NKBA magazine for their kitchen & bath show feature issue this year!

Here’s a portion of my kitchen. Apologies - the cabinets look darker and more yellow or tan in the photo than they actually are - in reality, they almost match the backsplash. The perimeter counter is leathered Virginia Mist granite; the island counter is polished Fusion quartzite.

Take a look at Cambrian roxwell (quartz). It’s a wavy pattern, colors black, grey, white, a little sparkle. I have it, looks great with my white cabinets

IMO the whole point of white cabinets is that the choice for counters is amazing and I agree the best is to take a sample of the white and go to some stone yards .Some of this also depends on your style of cabinets too but I like soapstone for counters with white cabinets BTW I think jewel colored cabinets are lovely for a while and then we will be back to wood or white again

I love the contrast of dark countertops with white cabinets. The choices are endless.

We almost went with blue pearl granite but our cabinets are dark stained wood and I was afraid of having too much dark. I love blue pearl with white cabinets and it's one of the denser granites.

Any idea what the countertop is DK

I struggled with countertops for a while ended up with a grey taupe that I am happy with. I am sure you will find exactly what you want

Is your kitchen part of a great room or otherwise open to another room -- family room or dining room? If so, what room and what colors/decor?

If you have a favorite bold color, consider including that within your countertops; however, if you prefer a more calm/cool look, then, with your appliances being black and stainless steel, you might consider black countertops or a medium gray -- if not as a solid color then within a countertop with t he same white background as your cabinets or, perhaps, a black and shades of gray together countertop.

With white cabinets, you might consider adding blue either for your island base and/or countertop. There are both lighter more muted blues and darker bold blues.

Hi Sue, yes it’s part of a great room! It’s new construction and yet to be built. We plan to make the island cabinets a navy blue, As far as overall color scheme I am thinking of blues, grays, browns and creams. Flooring throughout is hardwood. We are in the process of selecting everything for the entire house,..it’s overwhelming, It is not custom construction so I’m limited to what the builder has selected for me to chose from. I’m underwhelmed by the countertop options so I am pretty frustrated right now.

@Linda Hunt, the countertop in the photo that @My House shared looks like Taj Mahal. Lately TM has not been so creamy, but more gray... at least the slabs I viewed in the last few months.

There are so many beautiful options. If you love granite, you surely know that white granite is never actually completely white. Here is the project we did in Pomona NJ with white cabinets and Delicatus White Granite https://aquagranite.com/project/delicatus-white-granite-pomona-ny/ It's not all white and it looks beautiful. Of course, you can always go for a more powerful contrast and use dark gray or even black granite or quartz countertops.

Linda Hunt, you should be able to pick out any counter you want! (Unless it's locked into the contract? Is there a way to change it?) We've always done our own thing with counters. So many options - what do you love? My favorite for contrast and durability is a harder variety soapstone like PA.

Dusty...I wish! The builder has preselected options for is to chose from, that’s why I’m struggling. To select my own I’d need to have them install their standard granite (no U AND O if there are no counters) rip it out and redo it in my choice...not worth it. We just can’t afford to custom build.

Linda, I still don't understand. Just have them do everything but the counters. Then pick out your own. Once they're installed, then your contractor can install the pre-selected backsplash. I have had friends who have done this (with reasonable contractors). Some are not happy about it, but will usually say yes if you push. There should be no reason for the contractor to insist on installing his stuff if you're talking about one item. What do you mean by "no U AND O?"

It’s new construction and where I live the township will not issue a Use and Occupancy permit if there are no kitchen counters in the home. I.E. we can’t move in. Our builder will not permit any sub contractor not approved by them to do work on the home prior to settlement. B.S yes

For what it's worth, if the builder gives you Corian countertop options, at least consider them. My brother and his wife are well satisfied with theirs nearly a decade after installation.

Here is the granite we had in our last house. It was an 1890 folk Victorian with lots of maple trim.

Agree that the countertops that DK Hass posted are Taj Mahal. I bought 3 slabs 3 years ago that looked like that, very creamy/warm with brown/gold veins and not so pronounced pattern. Most of the TM slabs out there are more gray with a more "striped" pattern.

Also wanted to add that lighting and photography rarely show the true colors. My Taj Mahal quartzite counters always look cool and gray in photos, which is not the real color at all.

Definitely soapstone could be stunning, and I also love the first granite ( I think it's granite) in Beth's pix. It looks a little like Titanium which I have had on my brain and adore. It looks amazing with white but not sure about a navy island with it. Taj Mahal could be a real contender.

I love white cabinets with walnut counters on an island and grey veined marble counters on the rest.

Do any of you know what this might be?

Will be curious to see the experts weigh in, but I would say potentially Alaska White? (it has more white open background than I am used to seeing but could be).

What did you finally choose? I am having the same issue. Don't want white, I want a gray brick look backsplash so countertop can't be busy. Almost all Quartz places have 90 percent white with some sort of veining
