I would have both. If you are in a somewhat hot climate. Some grass would seem to feel be a bit cooler. I like having both as it's a more interesting design using both materials. Pavement of any kind radiates heat.

I have grass right up to the edge of the pool and nobody gets grass and mud in the pool. The stone coping itself can be walked on - I am in a very dry climate but even when the grass gets really wet there is plenty of hardscape for you to stay on here. I have a saltwater pool - and grass with flagstone imbedded in it - the grass looks good, stays cool, feels nice to lay on with a towel or a chaise lounge. It stops kids from running and slipping. I think you will really love the design you got - you have several locations for loung chairs near the pool, plus stairs to sit on under the trellis. I would stick with it - the landscape architect has the experience to do this right.

Personal experience is always extremely relevant. I am wondering how one mows or edges grass right next to pool coping without getting grass in the pool? Growing up in Southern California, we children were very messy in our pool habits and did a lot of splashing outside the pool. These propensities led one family to require us to only exit the pool at the diving board end, and stand there until we had dripped sufficiently so as not to ruin the landscaping. Those rules took all the fun out of swimming there.

You should also consider if you will be installing a safety cover that may need to be anchored into your decking, and discuss with your pool professional how your decking/grass choice may affect the installation.

Love the all grass look, this is what we have done

I have half grass, half flagstone and love the combo winter or summer - the grass is cool on the feet when the stones are hot and vice versa.
