Herbs of any kind are very poor candidates as houseplants - too dry, too warm, too dark. Because they are stressed by growing in unfavorable indoor conditions, they are overly prone to whatever diseases and insect pests they may be exposed to.

Bottomline: you need to be very diligent and attentive to plant care to grow hardy herbs successfully indoors. Not sure where you live but I'd suggest planting outside as soon as you are able.

Could be leaf miners or spider mites . Other than that, everything gardengal said. Oregano is a hardy full sun plant. It's going to be a real challenge indoors.

@floral_uk, I don't see any insects with my naked eye upon close inspection. I live in sunny AZ where this potted plant resides on my window sill and gets sun most of the day. But it is dry this time of year. It needs water every day and has been growing like a weed. I just trimmed it. Is it safe to use the freshly washed sprigs with the leaves in this condition?

Spidermites are almost microscopic and leaf miners would be inside the leaves, not on them, so you can't see them. Your oregano is definitely not happy for some reason. It's perfectly safe to eat. You'll just get some extra protein.

Hmm, I'd prefer my protein in a different form. LOL I did kind of crowd it into this decorative pot so the roots are probably not happy. I'll repot and see what happens. Thank you for the feedback.

Since you live in AZ, rather than repotting, just plant it in your garden. It will be much happier - and healthier - outside where it can get the the conditions it needs.

I grow all my herbs in pots... and everything else. However, they are all outside. I am in the Central Valley of CA, and I have my biggest, most beautiful Oregano plant where it only gets morning sun; the one in full sun gets scorched. I find that I need to cut back both plants to quite short at least twice a year or the leaves get ‘old’ and the plants scraggly. I think your plant will do fine with a much larger pot. IMHO: i think it might be Greek Oregano because of the kind of leaves it has.
