Speaking of hummingbirds this nest was active over the summer. Now it’s just growing grass. It’s interesting how they build their nests on the thin tips of the branches.

Kara, I suspect it’s just opportunity. They also go for cactus branches and the interior of hedges.Also, hummers are strictly New World, but, IIRC, South Africa has sunbirds which pollinate many Aloes.

Hummers used to nest in a big Bougainvillea when I had it. How they figured it would be a good home and impenetrable to cats is a wonder.
