need color help - stuck on hold

I posted this yesterday on quiltingboard, but the site has been down since. (I usually post there for a quick answer, which, in this case didn't work.)

I've really been looking forward to this quilt. The so pretty in the photo and the colors are perfect (the thought just occurred to me that it could be photo shopped).

I'm not liking the way it's coming together. I searched, both online and all the shops close to me for a white shirting with a small red dot. I never found it. I settled for a white on white for the background fabric. It doesn't seem to be working. I think the border I've chosen is too bright and not really "tied" to the rest of the colors. The small red dot would have worked, but it's too late for that.

My choices seem to be to find another fabric for the border or increase the size of the quilt and eliminate the border.

Well, sorry, it's sideways and I can't delete it and turn it.

Does it need more of the red from the border fabric in the quilt, or a softer red, or another color altogether? Or just add another row and eliminate the border?

edit to add: I'll try to improve the light, so that the colors are more accurate, and photograph it again.

I like the red but think you need a few more of the darker red blocks in the quilt if you have enough fabric. Be sure to spred them throughout the quilt.

I think it looks good, too. Maybe add a bit more of it in the body of the quilt.

I can't tell, but does the one yellow block have red. Would you like it with a thinner inner border of the yellow and then the red?

Thanks, everyone. I decided to go back and add more of the vibrant red to the body of the quilt. Thanks Bev, I'm going to try out that yellow inner border before the red one.

I really liked that pattern If I don't like it, I can always give it away.

After I slept on it, I decided to finish it without the red. I will take out the bright red blocks (only two) and either finish it with a piano key border or, if I don't have enough fabric, then something close to one of the colors in the quilt already. I don't think I will be happy with the bright red as it won't really look like the one in the photo. This will not be the same, but will be pretty. It satisfies my want to make a card trick quilt.

Who knows, I may try again on this one. I'll find the shirting first, before I start collecting fat quarters. Someone on the other site mentioned the scale of the prints - that the ones in the photo were larger than the ones I chose (my cousin had so many, she probably had larger scale ones, I just didn't realize the impact it would have on the quilt). I'll make sure than the red blends well with the other reds in the quilt, too.

Thanks for your help these last few years. I learn more with every quilt.
