I’m sure they‘d look fine, but I would not paint that wood. Do you want to lighten the kitchen? There are other ways to do that, but the cabinets look very nice to me.

They won’t look as good as they do now. You just need more lighting and a new floor.

Ok, I know this isn’t what you asked, but I would paint the walls a very pale green, a little more beachy. I would change the small mosaic backsplash to a simple tile, perhaps subway, the lightest color, or even lighter, in your countertops. Replacing the floor would be a much more expensive project.

I would remove the entire cabinet section holding the microwave and replace with a couple floating shelves. Ive never personally liked microwaves at eye level and yours doesn't seem very accessible from either side. I also would remove the small cabinet above the range and add a more attractive range hood to break up the run of cabinets and add some height to what seems like an already tall room. My opinion is that there are often way to many uppers connected around a kitchen and it feels heavy and filled with things we don't use. Lose some uppers but keep the wood. Also invest in some perimeter can lighting above the counters, maybe what you are looking for is a brighter kitchen??

PS- if you feel like you have to paint, please consider painting only the uppers! a two tone kitchen would look very nice in this room :)

The cabinets are nice. I would not paint them. You may regret it later.

Put down a rug; neutral sisal or something else in your taste which will detract from the large amount of floor tile. Leave cabinets and tile as is. Accessorize with colors you like and paint walls to match.

I think the color they are now is nicer than white would be.

I am usually the first one to say paint , but in this case I think the cabinets are very nice as is. You need better lighting and I suggest all LED bulbs in 4000K to brighten it up. Get some fun colored stools. I dislike open shelves in kitchens and the MW seems fine to me where it is as long as it functions. I also do not like rugs in kitchens IMO they are a tripping hazard and really not needed with tile floor. I think some under cabinet lighting will be a big improvement and if anything I would change the backsplash.

I agree with @Patricia Colwell Consulting. I would also de-clutter, and change out the stools at the counter to something more fresh and colorful. Or, if you are only using those stools to set stuff down on, and never sitting on them, remove them entirely to add more breathing space to the area. That side of the counter has no overhang, so it really is not meant for seating.

I am not a pro, and I love white kitchens. But I wouldn’t paint your cabs. Agree with others who have suggested decluttering, new lighting, and a light, simple backsplash.

The first thing to do is to remove all the countertop items and counter stools so you can see what is going on in the kitchen. IME its very difficult to see around stuff on the countertop.

Turn on all the lights.

If you don't have under cabinet lighting, then add it.

I wouldn't paint those cabinets at all.

Once you have de-cluttered take new pics so we can see the kitchen.

i have to deviate from the crowd - I think they would look amazing painted white. They're a simple shaker style which looks *glorious* in a bright white or creamy white. The current colour is also beautiful but I think they would look stunning painted. Good luck on your choice!

Those are lovely cabinets! I wouldn’t paint either. I would change the flooring and paint colour as well as lighting

My vote: do not paint the cabinets. I agree with flopsycat1. If the cabinets are white the kitchen is still going to look transitional/contemporary. I am assuming you are trying to make it coastal, tell us if this is wrong.

I would put my money into a new backsplash and wall paint for now, especially if this is a vacation home. A pale version of what you have would work, a parchment color, like an almost white sandy beach. A matching subway tile or something classic, solid, and basic would work. New light fixtures and more lighting under cabinets would look great. You can get new cabinet hardware that is more coastal or rustic. These are changes that would need to be made even if the cabinets were white. Accessorize the tops of the cabinets with baskets, signs, decorative boxes, or other beachy accessories since you have the space. Then step back and see what it looks like.

To get started: get paint samples on large foamboard or cardboard and see how the colors look in changing light with the cabinets. For the backsplash, take 1 door and a picture or sample of your paint and countertops.

I painted your cabinets in white

No..no cabinets are beautiful...and distinctive...floor could use a change...but white cabinets won’t help.

^ And that’s why painting them white won’t work. But changing the pink floors now WILL make the cabinets work better. And after you do that and get a few more years, then spending the 7-9K to have them painted might be an option.

I would add recessed lights to the kitchen and eat-in area ceilings. It looks like a dark space, but the cabinet color isn't to blame.

The photoshop job saved you finding out the floor is pink once the cabinets are white. Good catch! I agree with others, paint, lighting, flooring if you can swing it. I also don’t love rugs in kitchens but if it’s a beach house where you don’t do much cooking maybe one would help.

The cabinets are fine as is. I would spend the money on changing the floor.

I love your cabinets I would not change them if they are in good condition. Perhaps think about WHY you want white cabinets. Lighten/brighten your space? Update space? Can you achieve change through other means?

Also LED lights will make big difference. My cabs are white but I had a midtone Sage (SW antique marble on walls) changed to a much lighter color and changed potlight bulbs to LED & kitchen is night & day.

I don’t have a negative reaction to MW, floor or backsplash, but if you change backsplash can you perhaps do something other than subway tile?

But decluttering and better lighting should be done first.

Really brings out the pink in the floors which I do not want! ok so new lighting and new floors first will give me the most bang for my buck. Looking for this kind of style staying with the brown wood cabinets. Maybe with some kind of grey tile instead of wood floor. Will keep you all posted!
