Reveal - small bathroom refresh

I'm pleased with how this came out. Rustic is what I was going for, and while a new vanity would have been my preference and gotten me closer to that aesthetic, it just wasn't in the budget; my goal is a total remodel down the line, but for now the bathroom is much improved and now better aligns with the feel of the house.

I didn't get any actual "before" pics -- DH put down the new flooring before I got around to it, but these in-progress pics will give you an idea of the butt-ugliness I'd been living with since we moved in.

See that light blue wall paint? Imagine that a shade or two darker, and that is what the previous floor looked like -- 4" blue ceramic tile with teal mosaic insets. DH put down Smartcore LVT from Lowe's in Burbank Oak over the tile.

Gotta love that vanity {eyeroll}! Yes, it really was painted like that... Previous countertop was some shade of beige with a scalloped (!) sink and a two-tone chrome and gold faucet set. Oy.

This was DH's first attempt at a door back when we moved in. He realized he screwed up and made it too short but never got around to fixing it. His door-building skills have come a long way since then, he's made some really nice doors to replace some bifolds and other doors we had.

    Here's the "after":

Normally I'm not a fan of white walls (at all) yet here they are. I tried many, many
paint samples and decided a richer paint just wasn't in the cards for this room
because of too much contrast of the white countertop (darn that budget!) and
the toilet in such a small room. I also wanted to highlight the mirror and
other dark elements in the room and decided to just give in and
paint it white -- walls are SW Alabaster (matte finish), ceiling is SW Extra
White (flat). Vanity is BM Silver Pine (aka Jack Pine). I chose this color
because it pulls out the subtle coloration in the floor and adds a bit of oomph
to the room with the white walls. I re-used the old vanity hardware. If I stumble on something snazzy I might change it out, but is fine for now. Mirror is an Etsy purchase, as are the towel hooks (only one showing in this pic), the toilet paper holder, and the door hardware in the next pic. Need something over the toilet -- enjoy going to local art shows, will wait for something to sing to me.

Here you can see DH fixed the door -- I think it came out great! He stained it
Special Walnut, which is what the mirror is stained. The shower curtain nicely
hides the mis-matched tile and ties in with the vanity. It is longer, and I'll
probably put it up higher in a month or so when I'm positive the paint is cured
good and hard -- don't want to take a chance damaging the paint fiddling with the tension rod on the drywall right now.

    Thanks for looking!

That looks terrific! So the flooring went over the tiles? How great is that.

You really did such a good job at tastefully bringing it up to date. Enjoy it!

Wow! What a great “after”! It looks so attractive, fresh, and new ... and I really like the door stained darker. I think white walls were a good choice. And I want that faucet! :)

What a nice improvement - especially on a budget. Art will be a nice finishing touch! I can't see what the dark square is above the toilet - is it a wall outlet or light switch? I'd either paint it or get a light colored one for that spot so it disappears a bit.

    Thanks, all. :0)

Yep, agree re: "dark square". I originally thought I was going to go with darker walls (BM Mountain Laurel, which is similar to the vanity color but a bit lighter - you can see a swatch on the wall in the original post) and I had the outlets changed to ORB. Obviously the plan changed... DH doesn't want to change the outlets back to white. Sigh. Will get the electrician (aka my brother) to switch them next time he's out. I put a nightlight in the outlet so it's not quite so obvious (but the big triple-gang on the opposite wall sure is...). Eh, I can live with it for now.

Faucet: Delta Valdosta I went with a single handle because darn it 4" spreads are hard to keep clean.

Yep, flooring went right over the tile. Was fairly simple and less than $200 for such a small space. Not worried about LVT not a good choice for a bathroom since this functions mainly as a half-bath -- we don't use this bathroom to shower but maybe once or twice a year, if that - pretty much only if houseguests.

I was thinking about it today, and I wonder if maybe some wood shelves might look nice over the toilet; I'll have to go poking around on Etsy.
