The best place would be from the very top, at the ceiling, but there isn't enough room at the sides for curtains. A different kind of blind or shade would work better.

At the ceiling. Are they going to be operable? If so, the stack back will come out over the windows more than is not operable. Does she need to shield the sun? Could do curtains with sheers. Either way, it will be custom.

I never like drapes near a fireplace I think some solar shade the windows to block heat and UV and then some nice roman shades on the bottom windows for privacy at night .

If she doesn't need light control on the top windows I would just leave them bare.

The return on the lower windows is tight. The mantle and the wall don't leave much room for curtain panels. That being said, I like the idea of off white panels for the lower windows to help ground the room. They might work if she doesn't mind covering some of the window.

I think drapes are in order for this space even though the clearance will be tight next to the fireplace. Place the rods halfway between the top window and the ceiling. Just be aware that you really won't be able to close them. She can still leave the blinds underneath.

That's actually pretty good light from a ceiling fan! I do like the idea of panels but only if you do floor to ceiling....otherwise its too tight and will become the focal point, and not in a good way.

Sure all the way drapes look great! I would go with warm light ones ans wall art above the mantle.

you also can go with short drapes, but not so fancy.

many good choices mentioned on window treatments. The two corner chairs look a bit crowded, might want to place them on the other side of the coffee table facing the sofa. I would also paint the window trim white, it would make it look more cohesive.

I would remove the blinds and use drapes on the lower windows only. Plantations shutters might be an option, too.
