Opinions on steam oven brands/models

I have been working with an appliance liquidator to source appliances for my kitchen. Obviously the prices are better but I don’t want to sacrifice quality to save a few bucks. These products all have warrantees. If you have experience with any of these please chime in!

I read lots of great things about the Miele but I don’t know anything about these:

Fisher Paykel OS24NDB1 - this is the cheapest but having heard nothing about it I’m assuming I should pass.

Thermador MES301HP

Gaggenau BD471611

The steam oven will be going in the island (I know, not ideal but it’s the only spot we have for it) if that is a factor.

I have also found Miele DG4080 open box/floor models online at great prices but I’m confused about all the different models. I see the DGC6700, DGC6705, DGC6800....I don’t understand the difference between all of these.

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance

    For the Miele model question...

DGC6700 is the smaller XL sized oven, ContourLine styling and is not plumbed.

DGC6705 is the same, but plumbed

DGC6800 is also the smaller XL sized oven, but with PureLine styling and is also not plumbed.

Miele has many other models, including the larger XXL models.

We will be getting a plumbed XXL ContourLine CSO, model DGC6765XXL.

Comparisons of each model can be found about a third of the way down their price list document, found here:

That is very helpful! Thank you!
I’m looking for non plumbed and XL so the 6800 would work great for me. I think it says it’s discontinued though...not sure if it matters

Miele now has a a DGC6800-1. I have the DGC6800 - purchased in 2015. I would get the serial number and check on the warranty. You can call Miele and they can tell you the warranty information as well as functional differences.. My oven has had 3 significant repairs under warranty so it is a more complex machine with lots of moving parts - hence more susceptible to repairs IMHO. I did purchase a 5 year warranty. Its a great oven and would buy it again.

From what I know the biggest difference is the newer model added a sous vide cooking mode - I use steam and adjust the temp and that works the same as far as I know.

Ok I guess I assumed we couldn’t do plumbed but my husband just said we could definitely run a waterline if we make the decision now so it sounds like I should do that.

I’d love to hear from someone who has the Gaggenau...

My plumbed Miele CSO XXL has a water line and a drain connection. It was installed under the counter, in the island, next to the prep sink, so accessing water and drain was easy.

For my future build, a plumbed CSO will be on the perimeter and higher up. A separate water line and drain will be in the building specs because there will be no sink next to it.

Indirect drain is usually easy to do if your plumber plans for it. But it can get tricky of you install under cabinet and there is no accessible crawlspace underneath. Your plumber should be able to advise

I'd be a little suspicious of an indirect drain under a cabinet. Agree if you live in a part of the world where homes have no crawl spaces nor basements that may be an option, but so would running a line out of the structure and into a rock garden provided there's no danger of a freeze up.

The least intrusive arrangement I've seen is a PVC line running to a utility tub in a basement. The line ends on the inside of the tub wall, instant air gap and the tub can hold 15-20 gallons if a blockage occurs.

Agree with the above, don't get your plumbing advice on here, consult a real, experienced plumber. Years from now you'll be glad you did.

I have the Gaggenau CSO. It's almost 4 years old. Love it. You have to know that the Gagg does not have the automatic programs. It's a bit more of a learning curve, but I want to be in control of my oven, so it works for me. I belong to a few FB groups and have yet to hear of an unhappy Gagg owner. A couple of points.... I don't want/need a larger cavity (my oven will accommodate a 14lb turkey). I don't want to be cleaning above a broiler element. I like that it is self cleaning, even though it's easy to keep clean manually. Mine is plumbed and I wouldn't change that for anything. Love the side hinged door (and the fact that I can push a button to open it). And I like the way it looks :)

Thanks Sherri! The gagg has been ordered!
The self clean function was a huge selling point.
