Pink bedroom okay for a guy?

last modified: 6 years ago

I was wondering, is it okay for a guy to have a pink bedroom? I don't mean millennial pink, but a purple-toned pink similar to Pantone's Fairy Tale. Pink is my favorite color. I do have a pink lightbulb in the lamp on my nightstand and have pink bed sheets, but do you think if I ever live on my own I should have pink walls in my bedroom?

Why wouldn't it be okay? Unless you're renting or sharing a bedroom with someone who dislikes pink, you can paint your bedroom any color you like.

Whatever floats your boat. Until the early 1900's, pink was for boys: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/when-did-girls-start-wearing-pink-1370097/

If pink makes you happy, then yes, you should have it. I would just be careful to google and find images you love of pink bedrooms. Too much pink (or too much of any color) would be off-putting but I can see pink as wonderful for you,

I did a quick search on Houzz and there are, in my opinion, too many pictures of "too much" pink, but I really like the one called "Color Outside the Lines" at the bottom of the first page where the only pink is in three bed pillows and the rug. But it strikes my eye as a pink bedroom" without overdoing it . Interestingly, on page 2 there's a rather sophisticated pink called "2017 St. Jude Dream Home."

I would suggest to anyone ( male or female ) to tone it down a bit! I have done plenty of pink rooms and love pink. It can be a beautiful color in a bedroom! But it is more restful and pleasant when it is a softer, warmer pink. I look for pinks in the brown section of the fan deck.

If you want you can pair one of these with a beautiful soft brown to tone down the feminine look a bit. Gray can look nice too but I do like warm tones very much with pink!

You might think they look a bit peach but you would need to see them in your room. Pink can be very deceiving and a bit overwhelming too.

I think pink is one of the most calm, soothing colors. These are making me want a pink bedroom, too. :)

Not the exact Pantone shade, but just wanted to show some ideas —

Yes, but I would suggest you choose a dustier pink.

These are not “ pink” but look very nice with gray and green. More of a mauve/ stone color that I think is beautiful in a bedroom.

Just as an example to not trust photos or paint chips on line. Here a a couple rooms; one I did quite some time ago, the other in my home I’m redoing for my granddaughters. I added the paint chips alongside and you can see they look quite different!

Guys can absolutely do pink, and frankly I wish more would. I wish that society had fewer dumb, random, and rigid rules about what folks of each (or any) gender should like.

I agree with other posters that pink can be overwhelming in large doses. You could do white or neutral walls with pink furnishings (comforter, curtains, lampshades, etc.) and the room would still read pink. Or do pink walls but be judicious about how much pink you pull into the other elements of the room (pink walls, a rug that picks up some pink, and a pink throw pillow, with other elements neutral).

One thing about paint colors is that--at least in my experience--they look more intense on the wall than they look on a chip or even in a sample. So a muted pink on the card will look much more vivid on the wall, just because there's more of it for your eye to take in.

My daughter's room is this color (Behr Botticelli Angel), which is peacher than what you want, and more neutral. It's not overwhelming in the room, but definitely, unapologetically, pink. She paired it with grays and whites.

This is more in the color family you were looking for, but toned down compared to the Fairy Tale (again, I'm suggesting toned down because I think that toned-down on the swatch may read as plenty pink enough on the wall). This is Pantone Pale Lilac.

I just mentioned this dilemma to my daughter (15), and when I got to "purple-toned pink" she interjected, "It could be Barbie pink, I don't care. He should do what he likes. If anyone judges him for it they aren't worth having around."

Of course we have no idea how glam Christopher wants to go!

I love that your daughter said that cawaps, I totally agree.

Pink is my son's favorite color, but he mostly wears it. I had a pink dining room once; a very pleasant space. These ideas aren't too fou-fou for a gentleman.

IMO a bedroom is really your private space do what you love. I hate pink walls but do like pale pink bedding as long as it isn’t flowers I think we all need to surround ourselves with what we love not what someone else thinks you should love.
