Does sunlight coming through get hot or very bright?

I'd put instead of a window a transparent switchable privacy protection glass wall. if you are not familiar with those I'll explain. it's as staged a glass wall or a glass room in some cases.. instead of wood or drywall being used it would be glass. you can see out of it like a window and you can make it private it it can bet made to be seen in and out of and it can make any room just awesome by itself. I believe it would look great in your house especially on 20 acres.

If heat and UV are a problem just do solar shades they are IMO nicer than a window film because on cloudy day just roll them up but the plus is the rest of the time you keep your view. BTW nice house.

The living room has a porch shading the windows but the dining room does not. It gets full sun. Those are solar roller shades, but they do not cover the top smaller windows. I was thinking that I needed draperies or something for looks. I would be fine without them if it looks okay. The view is pretty. This is a new house. No landscaping yet.

You may not need privacy, but you do need heat/sun/light control on south-facing windows. Continued sun exposure can harm fabrics and wood elements in your home. You have choices for window treatments: light-filtering window shades allow you to see out or see in, and reduce the light coming in; lined drapery panels can reduce heat and sunlight coming in, but you cannot see outside. If your white shades filter or block sunlight, you could add long drapery panels to simply frame the windows or to cover the windows to reduce heat and direct sun.

Thank you felizlady. How high would you hang drapery panels? The ceiling is 11’ and the windows including the trim are about 10’. Am at a loss as I haven’t used curtains of any kind in 25 years! Almost all of the windows have the white solar shades.

If you still want to do something with it, go with inside mount minimalistic roller shades - they will blend in to the window trim and not change the design dynamic of your room. I agree with Fenstermann. Go with motorized shades mounted on the inside of your windows. And I would choose the same white as your window trim. That way you will have the same clean look in your dining room as your living room but you can deal with the hot sun on a south window. I applaud your use of strong colour! Kudos! But, one small criticism. The bold colour in your dining room makes the rug under the table look washed out. I would replace with a rug with a strong colour. I'm thinking a dark mustard or the same blue as your walls but in a darker tone. The light coloured rug in your living room makes sense because of the light coloured walls. Other than that, well done on your decorating! Lovely, lovely home! Cute pup too!!

Gorgeous rooms! I love your dining room color. It's bold and beautiful. I admit it. I'm jealous and would love an invite you dinner in this room and a visit in your living room.
