Looking for ideas on layout for finished basement Rec Room

Hi all,

Just recently finished renovating our basement into a Rec Room for the kids. I am looking for ideas on best way to furnish / decorate it as i am not very good at it. I have included a floor plan sketch as well as some current pics of colors / what's there now. I've already built an entertainments unit on one end along with a built in bookcase, both stained Old Colonial Oak #230. Baseboards are stained the same. Cedar door as well. Ceiling height is around 7 1/2 feet however about 8" lower under bulkhead. Lighting is via LED's 5K. There's an airtight stove in one corner. I intend on adding a pool table where the basketball net thingy is lying in the photos. And another built in book case unit where the wall is indented. I have also included an updated floor plan sketch with thoughts on furniture location. Not sure what to do with the space bottom left side. Was thinking couches / chairs but not sure.

We like natural colors / woods, etc... This will be a play area so I'm trying to lean more on the KISS logic but still have style and appeal if that is possible :)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

First change the 5K to 4 K leds you will find the 5K a blue tint to everything and very industrial. As for the rest pool tables need 5’ all around them so no pub table in that spot. Could you show where you have the entertainment center because that will dictate where the seating goes. How many bookcases do you really need, how old are the kids. Do they play video games in this area.

I'll be keeping 5K as i specifically wanted that. Plus i'd have to replace all 29 LED lights as bulbs are not interchangeable :)

Based on sketch, there's 4" short of 5' so should be fine on space.

Entertainment unit is actually behind the drop down projector screen that you can see in a few of the photos. Sofa already there. I am more concerned about space all along left side of drawing TBH. Where card table / chairs / pool table are.

I don't know how many i really need? But they are built in and do not take up floor space really. I had originally built the indent in the wall at the bottom of sketch to house to large cabinets. However after looking at it more now that it is all built, i realize that having glass door cabinets at the end of a pool table is not smart. Hence why it'll be a future addition to have a bookcase in that space (Without glass doors).

kids are 15yrs old. Yes on video games but that's in the home theatre space that's already established (Actually son is playing in one of the photos LOL).

I like your ideas so far. Looks like a great usable space for kids.

For by the fireplace/stove I would do two nice club chairs deep and cozy.

For your card table or similar depending on what you plan on using it for make sure it’s big enough. We recently had to get a bigger table for puzzles because we underestimated how much was needed.

I think once you add art and plants and colour it will come together beautifully.

Like your ideas! I would turn the pool table the other way though, to take advantage of the 20’ length of space vs the 18’6”. Then place the pub table in the corner of the pool table room, where it can be seen from the pub/bar.

I too like what you are planning for furniture it seems to be a good use of the space.
