I honestly can’t see going to the basement after my shower to get dressed and when my sister and I had to share a room for just a few weeks the battle raged because she would try on my clothes and then not put them back. I certainly can see moving off season clothes to another spot to make room in the existing closets though. As for W/D I love them on the main floor where I can load and unload without running up and down stairs all day.I guess I would be looking at moving the older kids into the basement with nice bedrooms there and a nice spot for sleepovers and TV space to me a better use of space

I cannot understand the concept. Family coat closet yes but I would want my stuff private. Can’t imagine mixing shirts with my husband let alone our undies in the same drawer.

lol. everyine has a section in said closet. its not just all in together. the people who had them really liked them. We already have our laundry in the basement. I moved it off the main floor so we could have that space for living. we live in a ranch so i figure its not much different than a first floor laundry with bedrooms upstairs. I actually currently use a huge closet down there just for me. I go and get what I need before the shower. So i think thats how it would work. Ultimately we will need another bathroom down there, and possibly a bedroom. Our kids are too young to do that yet. I dont really anticipate using this idea,but it really fascinated me and inspired me to think outside of the box... like what else could we do that hasnt been thought of yet?

When my kids were younger I wished we had one! With little dressing rooms For privacy. It would have been so much easier for the younger kid to find something his brother had outgrown, and for the older one to borrow something of his father’s, and for me to borrow socks and shirts!

I have noticed that I wear about 10% of the clothes that take up space in my closet. The rest are formal or seasonal,

I can see storing seldom used pieces, my cocktail dress, my funeral suit, my summer wedding guest dress, shoes I rareLy use, my down coat in the winter, etc. in a community closet with my husbands tuxedo and kids’ “good clothes”. Mightn’t make sense in Ann old house where the closets and rooms are small.

I would still want my everyday work clothes close by in my bedroom.

Weve discussed it. We live in a bed &breakfast inn. Our room has a great closet, but isn’t in the best spot in the house. We’ve talked about using a room with inadequate closet space and storing our things in the room with the great closet. I can see it working.
