The amherst gray is reading blue gray (straight blue) and the entry door is blue-green. That is the clash. Your shutter have to be at least as dark as that existing trim - and these aren't. Test those shades to see if you get the contrast and a reading of the right undertone.

Karen, would you consider repainting the front door? We believe the current color has too much purple in the blue. How about repainting the door in HC-155 Newburyport Blue and painting the shutters to match the window trim. This should give you a more cohesive look. We like the shutters, so keep painting!

I love the comments, they have me thinking. I know the shutters should be darker than the trim, but can't bear to put another ounce of brown on the house! As u can tell , I am not a fan of brown. We're a young family and was hoping for a splash of color! Keep the comments coming! And thank you again for responding, I need the help!

I would just paint the door a darker shade

Try Sherwin Williams Muddled Basil for the shutters. Get your splash of color with the door. See what the SW store suggests as an accent for the Muddled Basil.

Sorry, but I think brown is the best choice. A really dark brown. The door looks great with the brown. A light shade of the front door might work: BM recommends See second attachment for an idea of what it will look like.

I like the cake batter too, it brightens the whole house. Someone earlier suggested u should go darker than the trim. Is that always the rule? Again I love the photoshopping!

I definitely prefer the darker shades for the shutters. Something with a punch for the front door, perhaps a burgundy that announces it as the entrance, with trim to match the shutters. Happy Houzzing.

You should post a picture of the whole house. It would be nice to see what other architectural details it has.

Hi Karen. We would suggest that you replace your existing shutters with pairs that are properly fitted for your windows. The width of your shutters should measure out to half the size of the window they are installed on, and in your case they are just a bit too small.

Since you cannot change your brown trim, why not a navy blue? We are afraid that if you go too light on the shutters against the trim and siding it may look all out of sorts.
