OK, so I was finally able to locate a few MandaRosa fruit at a local Fresh Market store here in northern VA. This is the fairly new Clementine / Tarocco blood orange hybrid -- billed as the world’s first patented pigmented, seedless mandarin.

They are quite juicy, have a beautiful color, are seedless, and have a slight berry and orange flavor -- probably more similar to a blood orange than a mandarin? Sweetish with just a bit of tang. Not bad. If I'm going to spend the money on store-bought citrus though, I still prefer Sky Valley navels, Sumos, Kishus, satsumas and a few other mandarins. For what it's worth.

I wonder though how they might taste if I could grow them on my own tree. I'm sure it will be a while before these plants hit the market, since they're probably highly guarded with all kinds of embargoes and exclusive rights for the patent owners. But who knows?
