Advice on new washer

Anyone have these and can advise?

TL LG WT7300 - has the best overall reviews across the board from every big box store (4.6-ish), but recent reviews say there is a rusting problem, paint chipping, and motherboard problems - thoughts??? Anyone see or hear anything about the consistency of these issues? I am worried that I am going to buy it, and then 4 months later, come to find that its a recurring issue. Also, a few typical reviews about not cleaning well.

TL LG WT7100 - not sure how its different from 7300 other than size. Complaints about not turning on (via google); the usual TL issues like clothes tearing or not washing; water sufficiency

FL LG 3900 - water hammer issue mentioned, otherwise, not seeing many issues other than its pricier. Also, I could only find indirect references to the water hammer issue. I could not find any direct review complaints.

I think I am set on LG but also worry about the availability of parts which I hear is an issue.

FL pros/cons:

Faster and better performance (pro)

Water hammer (con) - Is this really an issue or not?? I see references in connection with 3900 but dont think its a washer issue.

Musty/mildew unless you keep the door open (con) is this still a thing??? -> also found this criticism about too much maintenance: wipe down the drum every time or after every wash and then every few months you have to dilute bleach with water and rub on the drum to prevent mildew

TL pros/cons:

agitator tears and ties clothing (con)

does not clean (con)

no musty or mildew smell (pro)

confirmed to hide mold (con)

You are painting with too broad a brush with your pros and cons. There are great FLs and TLs.

For a topload machine consider a SpeedQueen TC5000. The “TR” models are very different. I’ve never had anything torn and I wash vintage and antique fabric. There is a delicate and handwash cycle on mine. It cleans wonderfully, but the machine is just part of that. You have to use good detergent, proper water temperatures and good rinsing. SQ allows a true hot wash. The capacity is smaller that what some machines list but be sure to read the manual as some machines can only be filled part way. The cycle time for mine is 35 min with a full wash and two rinses. This varies though in how fast the machine fills. Many machines have a quick wash but it is for a light wash.

With a FL, it may require a little more maintenance. I would want one with an onboard heater. People seem to like Electrolux. Also make sure it has adequate rinsing.

I am only reporting pros and cons that I am seeing in reviews. That's why I am asking advice here from consumers. With the 7300 for example, I don't understand how only 1-2 people are reporting rusting and no one else is.

" The washer washes the clothes fine. The problem is at the top of the washer, above the tub it has rusted out quite a lot. That is poor quality material used in making the washer. The warranty only covers mechanical items, so I am stuck with a falling apart couple year old washer. I will not buy another LG product. We have city water and a water softener. The water company said the rusting out, is from poor material used in making the washer. " Pic was also posted showing rust

BTW, the speed queen is out for us because its too small.

Yes you have to keep the door open on a FL washer. Think about it. The inside of the washer is wet. The boot is wet. The door is wet. If you close it and it can't dry out you get mold. I have a FL washer. I dry the boot when I am done using the washer for the day not after every load. I also remove the detergent drawer, dump remaining water that's in it in the washer and wipe out the drawer compartment. I leave the washer door open. I periodically use Affresh on the washers clean cycle. I do not have any smells or mold issues.

I wash king sized bedding in our SpeedQueen. Look at the overall speed of full clean cycles and true capacity as some TLs can only be filled half way. I get two wash loads done in the time a lot of machines take to do one. We use SQs in our business because we have to get a lot of laundry done quickly and it has to be really clean. We also have to have reliable. None of them have ever had repairs and they are abused.

I would probably go with a front load Electrolux with a heater if I needed a bigger capacity than what I have with my SQ.

This was the other review that kind of stunned me:

" "I bought it May 16th and by the 1st of August the Motherboard was fried and we were told we would have to wait over a month before they could order the part because it is back ordered. Apparently the motherboards only last 10 weeks. Today is the 13th and still no response from Lg on what they are going to do about this. We paid way too much for this to be happening and still going to the laundry mat every week that we can't use this broken piece of what ever."

I am a little surprised to hear that motherboards are "backordered". That sounds like a bigger problem than I would have expected.

Anyone know if the 7100 and 7300 use the same motherboard?

Just throwing this out there, 10 days ago I sent back LG 3700 to lowes, the dryer was not drying my clothes and it was taking 1 hour and 45 minutes for a "normal" wash cycle to complete. I am so confused that I have not made any decision needless to say our dirty clothes are piling up. In 1 hour 45 minutes (my single LG load), a speed queen could do 3 loads in the same amount of time. I would say 75% of my "big lg" load would fit into a speed queen for sure. There is no way the speed queen dryer could take as long as the LG dryer. While I have been thinking the same thing SQ are too small I am rethinking my mind set. I know the 3900 have turbowash which cuts down on wash time but I think you are still looking at 1 hour min. For me I need to look at how long it is going to take me to complete 1 weeks of laundry, not how many loads I need to be able to do.

LG washer is four years old. It has performed very well. No smell, but I use the tub clean cycle once in a while. You can see the rust around the blue dispenser. That is not covered under warranty.
